I have bad breath, how do I get rid of it?

I have bad breath, I'm tired of it.

I eat breakfast in the morning, then I brush, floss, and rinse with Listerine (spelling?)

I usually don't eat lunch.

After dinner, before bed, I brush, floss and rinse again.

Yet throughout the day I have nasty breath. What gives?

You need a breathmint with a battery. 😉

Seriously, see your dentist for help if your hygiene habits are up to par with no success. You could try a rinse twice a day with half peroxide, half water....that my help also.

noone's breath smells good, simple fact unless they always have gum.

go buy a tongue cleaner for liek 2 bucks at wally world, it gets tons of guke off and helps bad breath

Tounge scraper.

I am NOT kidding they do wonders. If you cant afford it just use some floss and scrape your tounge doesnt work as well but it gets the job done.

lol, this is something I've noticed lately. I'm not sure if I have bad breath, I just have a bad taste in my mouth all day long and I never used to. Maybe new listerine?

ouch 🙂

supposedly those tounge scrapers can do a lot, do you brush your tounge? that can help too...I found listerine typically makes my breath worse after the mintiness goes away...but it could just be me

So it sounds like I need to get a tongue scraper and some peroxide. Are you talking hydrogen peroxide that is in the brown bottle? Thanks.

Yeah, I brush heavily, I always have. My girlfriend always tells me to hurry up when I'm brushing because I get every angle, my gums, roof of my mouth, the back, etc.

i heard listerine makes it worse. if it contains alcohol, it dries out your mouth, making it easier for the stuff that causes bad breath to grow.

in particular, the part about your tongue's surface not being the main problem is interesting... we are genetically different and bad breath can run in a family because of traits of the tongue. The icky stuff hides underneath since saliva kills it. The other part is - most mouthwash contains alcohol which dries your mouth... a dry mouth = bacteria-haven. This is consistent with the morning breath idea because when you sleep, saliva production stops on your tongue (one of those brain things).

Not sure why dentists choose to go against all this and just recommend good gum care and mouthwash. I don't know who's right. I think my dentist has some deal with Pfizer or something...

The only thing consistent is... drink lots of water. I did try the Therabreath mouth rinse (walmart, cvs) and it does seem to get rid of the bad taste in your mouth for a longer period of time. Tastes a lot like the hydrogen peroxide mix but the ingredients have some other "stuff".

Get a cleaning from your dentist. Tartar build up can cause it. Also bacterial infections, low carb diets, not getting enough water, acidic foods...all culprits. Best talk to your dentist though. Chronic bad breath can be a symptom of other medical conditions.

do a hand stand / head stand for a few minutes a day and then rinse your throat. It will help the bad stuff in your throat to come up and then you rinse it out.

Scrape your tongue.

bad breath is primarily contributed from having a tongue full of bacteria and junk. after brushing my tongue every time i brush my teeth, it has noticably helped my breath smell...fresher.

don't brush too hard, you will rub all the enamel off of your teeth and they will get weak and get cavities 100x easier.

If you brush your tongue that should help, and accually Listerine causes bad breath, switch to Scope and you will get better results.

^^ Bingo. Seek the input of a qualified professional before you buy over-the-counter remedies. As Fritzo mentioned, bad breath could be a symptom of other medical conditions and it's best that you get it checked out now, rather than later.
