I have an IP question

Hello all. I am a newbie at this networking thing. I have one small question. I have a DSL modem and a router hooked up to my network, basically sharing one IP. Is there anyway, w/o having to order another IP address from the DSL company, to obtain seperate and different IP addresses??? Please let me know if someone has an answer to my problem. thanks.

Assuming you mean an external ip address (as opposed to an internal):
No. Your DSL provider must assign any external ip addresses you need.
Why would you need an additional external ip address?

To answer your question: YES (I assume you are trying to share a single IP between two or more computers)

It is call NAT (Network Address Translation). In the network world ther are two basic types of IP address ranges called Routeable and Nonrouteable (also called Private IP addresses). Routeable IP addresses will be passed through your router. Nonroutable IP address will not. Now with that in mind, you need to do the following:
1) see if your router will support NAT
2) do you have a hub or switch to share your ISP connection
3) are you will to adjust the IP settings on your network
4) can you program your router

Post your results here and we'll continue this lesson further...

Tiger: I'm not sure what you're trying to get at. Do you want a different IP address than the one you have or do you want a second address?

H.A.R.M - if you would read tiger's post again, you would see that NAT is already being used.

R0b0tN1k: Ah, I didn't see that, (and still don't) I think what he means by "share one IP address" is that is REALLY is sharing one IP, I think he has all of his workstations using the same IP and just turning them on and off. At anyrate I think he is long gone.
