I have absolutely NO idea how to install the CM 212+...

It said to remove the backplate and put on the 212+ backplate, so i took off the mobo backplate and it removed the little CPU thing that locks down the CPU.

Should I reinstall that part and just not use the mobo backplate?

The CPU installs just like it should. The flat backing plate mounts on the back of the board...

...and is secured by the standoffs (on the upside of the board) to the nuts (on the downside as you see in the photo.) You need about 4 hands to do it without risk of dropping the board...

The X-mount thing goes through the 212 heat sink, the X-mount legs extend to thread into the standoffs you secured to the backing plate. Orientation of the x-mount is specific... look at the diagram.

Take your time, if a blockhead like me can do it... you can too...
 
thanks guys! ok, so i got the backplate on (you were right about the 4 hands lol).

What i do NOT understand, is on the topside of the mobo, there is a level that pushes the CPU down. Well, when i removed the mobo backplate, that top part came off too. Should i screw it back on? I think im supposed to, since there are three holes in the exact same position of the ones i took out (on the 212+ backplate).
 
In my photo, you can barely see the mobo back plate in the little window of the 212 backplate. You make no mods to the mobo... install the CPU like you would any other board, the 212+ installs over it.

Whomever wrote those instructions that came with the 212+ should be allowed to be pecked to death by baby ducks or something... they 'leave a bit to be desired...' to say the least.
 
fuck my life, i have to take off the 212+ backplate, reinstall the mobo backplate, and then re install the fucking 212 backplate. FUCK.
 
Oh yeah, btw, got it done. Took me forEVER. omfg my first build in its entirety didnt take 1/4th the time it took me to do this whole fucking thing.

If i had clear directions on what to do, it would have taken maybe 15 minutes. I even researched the shit out of it on youtube, all these other websites, etc, and even those didnt help. I guess i just dont have a lot of experience with aftermarket cpu coolers, so things that should have taken no time at all perplexed me and weren't even mentioned by anyone.

Charlie, you were an immense help, thanks a lot! We should get a rep system in here or something. Also...totally agree with you...i hate the people who wrote the instructions (if you can even call them that, they were like cryptic clues or something lol...).

You've been here for about 11 years...and don't know how to install a CPU cooler? 🙄

You should have absorbed that information by osmosis, even if you've never actually done it...😛

I gotta admit, Coolermaster's "manuals" are usually not very helpful...nor well written.

Hyper 212+ was probably the easiest cooler I have ever installed. (Without a clip at least 😉 )

...it's the only cooler I've ever installed... 😉 I sat and fiddled with it a few minutes before I actually got down to it, I do wish I would have seen that thread on the thermal paste first, but I just took my time and muddled through it. The only clear information I got from the 'instructions' was the orientation of the spreader... everything else I just had to figure out meself.

It's kind of odd... I install pool equipment for a living; the instructions that come with the computers and electronics go overboard with information, with something as simple as a temperature sensor, even. I get most of the components for my computer build (something that, in my mind, requires a fair amount of instruction for proper installation) and all the 'manuals' that come with it look like they were written by a sleepy 6-year old (in print that is sometimes so small, I need a magnifying glass to read.)
 
I can definitely understand how the 212 is a pain to install. My biggest hangup was trying to find the right spot for the pins on that X-adapter (whatever the thing is called to secure the HS down) so that it would fit on the 1155 socket. I thought it only had two positions (775 & 1366) and I never realized it had a third (middle) position. Took me way longer than it should, but now that I know how, I could probably do it in my sleep.

But yea, the directions are awful.

EXACTLY! Its like everything was in the wrong fucking position. Took me forever to figure out i could even move the damned screws to use them in the brackets! I was about to take off and re-do the position of the backplate.

I could definitely do it pretty easily now.
