I have about $700 to spend on a basic setup

Good point. I think i will stray away from HTIBs because I like to upgrade things. I don't mind putting my whole budget on a great set of speakers/receiver and get the rest later. I did the same thing with my headphones and my computer.

Right now I am looking at Energy / AV123 and SVS speakers to go with an Onkyo receiver. It's hard to find them used since most ppl keep them.

yup I found them earlier, thanks. :) I'll have to read more reviews on those SVSs. I know they are known for having great subs.

Just an update.. I decided to go with 3 SVS SCS-01 fronts along with a PB-10 sub from SVS. I will get the rears later. The Yamaha RX-V663 will be my receiver. I'm very eager!

I hope you like it. I had the original PB-10 a couple subs ago and I liked it quite a bit.
