I'm at a loss as to what to do on this one:
The Windows 98 installation on this PC craps itself. So I restart into ms-dos mode and format c:. After I do that, I stick Disk 1 of the Win2k boot disk set in the floppy drive, check that the floppy drive is the first item in the boot order, and attempt to boot up. I get an invalid system disk error every time. The floppy drive I'm using has never had a problem and I've used this boot disk before. So I have no idea what else could be wrong. The PC hangs when I try to boot to a cd-rom, which is the default (and thefore supported) option, so that route won't work either.

The floppy may have been damaged. You can recreate the disk with the makeboot.exe program in the BOOTDISK folder of the Win2k CD.

nope. I have used multipe copies of the same boot disk, as well as a few different boot disks, and they still dont work

It's a Compaq so it is by default set to boot off the cd first. Even with the Win2K cd in, nothing happens. I don't get an invalid system disk message, it just hangs. Would clearing the bios fix it?

Sometimes certain cdroms will not boot off a cd, just an idea for you. Try another floppy boot disk too.
