I have a rodent infestation!

Bateluer

Lifer
Their cage arrived this morning and I bought the rats not long after.

The first pic of Minsc, the larger of the two, checking out his new cage. You can see Keldorn's head poking out from behind the wheel too.

The second is of them both, Minsc is climbing the wall, probably thinking 'these bars will bend and twist with my berserker strength!' The one on the ground is Keldorn, probably wondering when Minsc is going to fall on his rump. 😛

Two hooded Fancies. 🙂

Nice!

Keep an eye on the water. You'd be amazed at how much water those little critters drink. Another thing mine used to do, is bury food for later consumption.

My best friend is allergic to just about every kind of animal known to man. She is not, however, allergic to hairless rats....so those are her pets. I like your new family. 🙂

Oh come on, you name one of them Minsc but not the other one Boo?

BOOOOOOOOOOOO!

BOOOOOOOOOOOO!

If I had a rat and a mouse, the mouse would have been named Boo. 😛

For now, its Minsc and Keldorn. 🙂

Edit - Boo is actually a Hamster, btw, not a rat or a mouse. 😛

Not just a hamster...he's a miniature giant space hamster!

I think you should have named them Pinky and The Brain.

My brother said the same thing, but he is a afraid of rats . . .mice, gerbils, hamsters, etc. Its kinda sad since he's entering his junior year of college next semester. 😛

hahaha...nice. We raised a couple back in elementary school...so i guess because of that, i was never scared of them. 🙂 Only thing i refuse to touch or pet are pet spiders.

They are wrestling with each other in their cage right now. 🙂

I don't think the really trust me yet, every time I approach the cage, they retreat into their box. 🙁 The tee shirt I'll sleep in tonight will go into their cage to give their feet a little reprieve from the wires.

Don't worry, they'll get much friendlier in a few days. Tomorrow you should take them out in a bathroom and sit on the floor and let them climb on you.

does that mean they pi$$ a lot? i would imagine the biggest problem with any rodent is dealing with cleaning the cage and cleaning smelly urine.

They do piss a lot, but that's why you keep a regular cage cleaning schedule. Done at the proper intervals, using the proper litter, you won't smell it.

I'm wondering when they are going to push their box over the edge of the second level of their cage. They like to chill between the cage wall and the box wall, slowly pushing it closer to the edge.

Edit - Keldorn seems to be more skittish than Minsc. Whenever I come close to their cage, he darts inside the box.

Yesterday, I had Minsc licking yogurt off my finger, thoroughly enjoying himself, but it took a lot of coaxing to get Keldorn out of his box. He only took a few licks, then darted back to the box. Its going to take some work with him.
