I have a question for the Moderators or someone "in the know".

Why is it that we aren't allowed to mention other sites such as FatWallet by name?

And why are coupon codes suddenly not allowed anymore?

Sorry if I wasn't around maybe when the original rule was made I'm really curious as to what the reasoning is behind it.

Thanks.

---

We did not "suddenly" bar coupons codes. They have not been allowed for a long time because members were clogging the forums with posts about ways to abuse them through fraud. If that is what you want to do, please enjoy yourself on sites that permit this behavior. Our rules also prohibit posting direct links to urls with coupon and promotion codes you are not permitted to post on our forums.

Some domain names are also blocked because they have taken aggressive action against our forums. Your example is one such site.

Almost certain its the DMCA for question two. Not sure about the first one. Most things posted on FW are like scams and fraud IMO...

Coupon codes haven't been allowed for years. Many coupons have reststricted distribution but are used by the general public wrongly. Hence, since they are all available at FW., no links.

Umm... if you know that it's not allowed, why would you first of all spell it out and second of all link it?

Because it would increase the chance of my question getting noticed.

DMCA on coupon codes huh? So then how come FW still does codes if it's the DMCA?

Anandtech made a decision over a year ago that the legal difficulties associated with coupon fraud outweighed the benefit of posting them. It is their site, so get over it. As far as linking to other sites, why don't you try linking to Anandtech at wallet and see how successful you are. Or why don't you go into Burger King and scream at the top of your lungs how much better Wendy's is, and see how far you get.....:)

go easy on him. I actually have often wondered the same thing. But came up with similar answers on my own :)

Being a member of both fw & at I have often noticed the difference between the crowds. fw hot deals seem a bit more umm... premitive and "money hungry" than the good ole boys at at.

as for the coupon codes thing. Personally could care less. I have learned that in google. All things are possible. :)

Cheers
