I have a question about Smartphones and micro-sims?

Hey,

My present phone has the regular size SIM card and slot. I am looking to buy a new smartphone but I noticed many of them use the micro-sim cards and slots.

I have two regular size sim cards already from current phones so I imagine that limits my choices for new smartphones then?

Do dual sim smartphones have one slot for regular size sim cards and another for micro-sims?

I was looking to get the Motorola Moto G second gen phone but it uses a mico-sim slot:(

You can buy caddies and cutters (cheap/eBay) to make all the different sizes

Or get a new one from your network provider

Carriers will often offer a replacement SIM if your current one won't fit. You may have to buy it, though, although it's not supremely expensive.

Yeah usually you can just walk in to your carrier's store and get a new one on the spot, it's usually about $10.

I have. Trimmed SIMs before. From full to micro, then again to nano. Between mine and my friends / relatives, I've trimmed SIMs probably 8 or 9 times. All successful. I'm very careful when I do it.

Anyway, my iPhone 5 came with a nano-SIM. I was still using that when I switched to my 5s and then to an iPhone 6 Plus.

It was working fine in my iPhone 6 Plus, but AT&T sent me a text message telling me that I needed a new SIM for some reason. I have no idea why. Data and voice worked fine.

I called them from another phone and activated the SIM that was included with my 6 Plus.

I just trimmed one for a moto g the other day, since it slides into the slot only the width of it needs to be perfect, the length you can cut piece by piece until it detects the network.

as others have said, you can easily cut them if you're careful. I work on phones on every major carrier and I routinely need one-off SIMs and most carrier stores will convert it no problem for you. They say they will charge but almost never do they do it in the end, and it's like 10 bucks at most iirc

I cut SIMs all the time and they work fine. Just be careful not to use too much force inserting the tray.

For a postpaid service I would just walk in to a carrier store and ask for a new SIM.

These are also a-dime-a-dozen.
