I have a product key for Windows 7, how do I know what version it's for?

Hey guys, I have an old copy of Win7 that I occasionally install on my Macbook to play some games. Invariably, I get bored of the game, wipe Bootcamp and then go back to stock. I'm now to looking to reinstall Windows but I don't have the install disk but have the option to download the iso. I just don't know which to get (Ultimate, Professional, Home Premium, etc.)

Is there a way for me to plug in my product key somewhere and have it tell me what version it's for?

Thanks.

Is Windows still installed? If so, just boot into Windows and check to see what version you have installed (i.e. right-click on Computer and hit Properties).

If you don't still have it installed, simply create a universal installation disc:

Then, try to install Windows 7 Home Premium from the disc using the key. If this doesn't work, then wipe and reinstall Win7 Professional. You have a 50-50 chance to get the next install right with either Win7 Professional or Win7 Ultimate (I'd try to install in that order).

Heh - I was trying to avoid the guessing game 😛 The universal installer is a step in the right direction though. Thanks!
