Craigslist. Post it in the free section.

"Free fill dirt, on my driveway. Come get it. Do not disturb us in the house or the neighbors."

Wait, you can bake your dirt into pies and sell at the church bake sale.

Where do I get rid of the dirt? Everywhere around here has a "No dumping" sign. The soil has a lot of pebbles/stones in it, so I don't want to just spread it around my yard.

so i cant do a poo on your lawn?

You didn't need to dig up the dirt to put mulch down. Throw the dirt back into the garden/flower beds and mound it, leaving the front edge 3"-4" deep for the much.

The top of the dirt was even with the sidewalk hence the digging.
Even if the top of the dirt was higher than the sidewalk, mulch still can be apply on top of the soil.

The trouble is that the area I'm going to mulch is about 2 foot wide by 20 feet long. So I don't think a mound would work well.

Maybe I could just mail an envelope full of dirt to every forum member...

List it as "fill dirt" on Craigslist. You'll even make a few bucks, although it'll go quicker if you offer it for free.

Ding Ding Ding.

Better yet, post it as "Clean Fill Dirt, $5 per wheelbarrow." and someone will steal it as soon as you turn your back.....

Sure it was from putting down mulch ? A hole about 6 ft long leaves about that much dirt left over . Not that I would know anything about that.

Melt it
Pour it out in thin sheets
Save some to make a brick
Make a greenhouse where the dirt used to be using the thin sheets
Throw the brick through the greenhouse
Contemplate the way of the world

Thanks for the (serious) suggestions, all. I ended up transferring the dirt to the backyard where I have a big patch of plants overgrown with weeds. Now I have to figure out what to do with that patch.
