I have a phone interview in 2 hours

I'm nervous. Last time when HR called me I was in the computer lab. I knew I had to pick it up but I knew reception was horrible downstairs, so I ditched my hw, my calculator, my valuables and ran upstairs just so I could talk, but I was totally not 100% ready for that.

Well, good thing they called back saying they want to schedule a phone interview....

Pee first, have a glass of water ready in case you need it. use a pen and paper to write down questions and work out problems. Have your resume in front of you and go over it once so you know what BS you put on it. Figure out some things to ask about the position and write them out on a notebook beforehand. Look at the job description and make some notes on questions they might ask you about (before hand).

A phone interview is like an open book/open notes test. It can work out for you, but you have to prepare ahead of time to be able to take advantage of it.

edit: Write everyone's names down and who they are and what they do so you can refer to that later if you need to.

Write up notes on your major projects and what you did, learned and skills you applied during the course of the projects so you can make sure you don't miss a high point.

Dress up for it anyways. Will help to get you in the professional mindset. One of those subconscious things that's supposed to help.

I would go the other way. Take the call completely naked. The other guys have clothes on, but you're butt naked and you can give yourself a major advantage by letting them know that they're talking to a man who isn't afriad to be bare ass naked.

I tried it a few times. Once, the guy in the next stall kept offering his opinion so I don't recommend it any more.

i did this in december and it was nerve racking, but i got through it by preparing for it ahead of time and trying to relax before the call. i practiced what i would say at the beginning a few times and i dressed in decently nice clothes to feel like i was going to an interview. after that, i had my resume sitting in front of me for when they asked me questions about it and i did my best. good luck.

I was put through the wringer during a phone interview for a big company in Jersey. The toughest interview I ever had, period. The questions flat out didn't make sense.

that sucks. do you remember any of the questions?

Not so much, I had the interview over the past summer. Think of questions like: Tell me about how you would differentiate the problems during the time you had to make a decision, but were under scrupulous pressure by peers, all the while coordinating a multinational military landing in Normandy.
