I have a job this summer!!

I finally got a job...Helping with the summer computer upgrades at my school...I get $8/hour, with 80 hours per 2 weeks...What deductions are taken from paychecks and how much? I know Social Security and taxes...I get taxes back, correct?

If you contribute too much to your taxes based on your income level, you'll get some of that back.

But since you're a dependent of your parents (and you'll have to claim as such on your tax return), you will most certainly not get all of your tax contributions back.

I really hate the government...How much is the SS deduction? My friend said that taxes+SS=~40%...that seems a little high, but then again it is the American government...

Without taxes from people just like YOU, you wouldn't have a job at your PUBLIC SCHOOL fixing computers. Public schools are funded by TAXES.

The taxes taken out of your paycheck help build roads that you travel on to get to your job. They also pay the salary of police officers and firefighters who help keep you safe. Taxes also pay for health inspectors that help keep your food safe from bacteria and unsafe handling practices.

Also, Social Security tax is nowhere near 40%. I'd say the total amount taken out of my paychecks each pay period is about 15-20%

You're a complete moron if you think taxes are some bottomless pit that never gets back to you.

I don't go to a public school...I eat at home, and the cops here are complete a$$holes (but we still need them to protect everyone from...themselves..)...I never said that SS by ITSELF was 40%...and I know that TAXES come back to me...

In PA, federal + state + local tax withholdings were about 25% of my paycheck (as a dependent of my parents, that is).

Yeah, but I'm a Republican...I don't mind it, I was just wondering...it just seems really high from what people have been telling me...I gotta buy a car this summer!!
