i have a wireless connection with the pc that i whant to get to the G3 with a cross over cable
i would prefer both internet and file sharing, but just inter net will do.

lets see.. my power mac is running 10.1 with 192 mb ram, 8 gb harddisk It has 10/100 eather net
my pc - intel extrem 10/100 eathernet 300 gb harddisk, 4 gb ram

i would prefer both internet and file sharing, but just the internet will do.

i havnt tried pluging them in to each other (crossover) and seting things to auto
it doesnt work
 
Make sure both the Windows machine and the Powermac have appropriate tcp/ip settings (IP address, gateway, dns servers, etc. where appropriate). Setup ICS on the Windows machine.

the pc has, on the card that hooks up to the apple machine:
ip address 192.168.0.100
sub net mask 255.255.255.0

EDIT: Those won't work if your wireless network connection is using that range of IP addresses.

Try to ping the Mac OS X box from your windows machine (make sure all firewalls are off).

Open a cmd prompt (start -> run -> cmd) and type: ping 192.168.0.101

Ok, if that worked you can get to the internet. Last thing to check is to make sure you have DNS setup correctly. I don't know where that is exactly in Mac OS X 10.1, but it shouldn't be too far from where you put in the IP address. Put in the same values you have for the Windows machine (24.197.160.17 and 24.197.160.18). Then try pinging www.yahoo.com.
