Hi,
I have a Video file that TMPGenc wont recognise as a video file, so can someone suggest a fix, or another free encoding program. I need to convert the file to a format thats compatible with VCD`s, ie mpeg2. I have the latest version of TMPGenc.

Here are the propeties of the video file bty, in case that`ll help diagnose the problem. Taken from GSpot v2.1

Name = Notrealname.avi
Video Encoded in = DivX 5.0
Video = 384x288, 719kb/s, 25fps.
Sound = Wave format mpeglayer3, 128kb/s, 44100hz, stereo sound.
Duration = 1hour 56minutes 24seconds
Size = 710mb.

Thanks in advance.

You have a DivX and MP3 codec installed, right? Somewhere in TMPGenc's, settings, try playing around the VFAPI plugin priority. Try, for example, bumping the VFW reader up so it takes priority.

If that doesn't work, you can try loading it in VirtualDub. If it loads, you can use VirtualDub like a file reader. Find "Start Frame Server" in VD and follow the directions. It will create an AVI proxy file that you can load in TMPGenc like an ordinary AVI.

BTW, VCD = MPEG1, SVCD = MPEG2.

It just says file is corrupted or unsupported.
Its not corrupted, cos wmp9 plays it fine.
Ive heard that *.avi files encoded with DivX5.0 files, can cause problem with encoders, due to them not being "written" in a standard way, but playback is fine.

If it plays fine in WMP... Try bumping the priority of the "DirectShow" plugin in TMPGenc to the highest since that's probably the same thing WMP is using.

Options -> Environmental Setting -> VFAPI Plugin. Right-click on "DirectShow" and keep selecting "Higher Priority" until the number is above everything else.

Good to hear it worked :)

The higher priority just gives "DirectShow" the first a chance to read the AVI. If it's not the highest, OpenDML (IIRC) will try to read the AVI, and that might have been the one failing. AFAIK, they pretty much the act same way, DirectShow maybe slightly slower, but whatever works.
