I have a Desktop 2500+ @ 2.2Ghz Upgrade options?

Welp my little brother just put together a new A64 PC and it blows me away how fast it is compared to my 2500+ @ 2.2ghz, I can get 2.3 stable during the winter w/ 1.85V. My system specs are in my sig, any ideas what would be a good upgrade to make my system faster? My Bro just got an A64 3200+ (newcastle CG), 2 GB of OCZ EB memory, and an Asus K8N-E Deluxe motherboard, it performs quite a bit better than my system, but I just can't justify the cost of a complete upgrade like he did (he went from a Tbird 1.33Ghz @ 1.4 to his new A64) I was thinking maybe get an AXP-M 2500 or 2600+ and a faster 92mm fan for my SLK900A and see if I can hit 2.4 to 2.6ghz but I'm not sure that will be a big enough upgrade to be worth the cost. Welp any suggestions are welcome and sorry for the book.... 🙂

I'd probably just wait until you can afford to go A64. Even with a slightly higher overclock, it will still likely seem sluggish next to an A64.

The link to your rig doesn't work, so i don't know if there's anything worth upgrading, but i wouldn't get a mobile, as it will not seem any faster.

If you are going to upgrade, the A64 route is the way to go.

Thanks for all the suggestions, hrm the link to my rig seems to be working for me so I'm not sure whats up. but in any event I'll list my specs...
Barton 2500+ @ 2.2ghz
2x512mb PC3200 winbond CH-5
Asus A7N8X-Deluxe
Antec smart power 400watt power supply
Liteon 16x dvd rom
Liteon 52x Cdrw
WD1200JB HDD (120GB 8meg buffer HDD)
Ati Raedon 9800Pro w/ VGA silencer
On board Soundstorm
Thermalright SLK900A w/ 92mm x 25mm 51cfm Sunnon fan
(I also have a Sound blaster Audigy 1 on the shelf in case I swap motherboards)

That about sums it up, w/out replacing the MB / CPU I'm not really sure what I could do to upgrade it and if I were to get an Asus K8N-E Deluxe and say a 2800 to 3200+ chip and use all my old parts I'm not sure the 300+ dollar bill would be worth the jump in performance compared to what I have

jhrmm......................why do people with great pcs have the upgrade itch so often 😛

Its absolutely amazing 😉

I had the same exact setup, and just upgraded to a EPOX 8KDA3J with an A64 3000+ plus and it was a nice improvement. You can always sell your current stuff to help finance the upgrade... I think any other option would not be worth the money.

One thing you could do is buy watercooling.
That would be a lasting upgrade (you could re use it with a new system, of whatever type), and would allow you to overclock to 2.3GHz all the time 🙂

Well, I have basically the same system as you (Abit NF7-S R2 being the biggest difference) and my computer is plenty fast enough for now. Even Doom 3 is running great on it. What are you doing with your computer that you need to upgrade it?

I say stay with your current gear until NF4/Socket 939 is out and affordable. That's what I'm waiting for right now.

No upgrade is worth it unless you get atleast an A64 Mobo and CPU. With that said I still would try to tough it out for a bit longer for a price drop etc.
