I have a computer that I cant connect to on the network.

I have a computer that I cant connect to on the network.

I can connect to the other 9 computers, no problem.
That computer can connect to me no problem.
I can connect to that computer from "some" other computers no problem. SOme other computers have the same problem as I do, they can connect to all other computers, including mine, but not this particular one.

What would cause this? Why would some connect, and others not? We are all in the same workgroup and subnet and can access the same network shares.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the network settings on that computer. The firewall is off. File and print sharing is on. The C drive and other specific folders are shared. All the settings are the same as all the other computers.

I even went so far as deleting all references of that computer on mine that were under my network places and I had a mapped drive to it, I deleted them all. I renamed the connection name on the other computer, and when I went to view that computer through mine, the name had changed on the view workgroup computers. It is reading that the name changed, but not allowing me access. It allows others access.

Is it my computer that has a problem with that one, or that one has a problem with mine?

I cant ping it, but if I update the name of it, it shows up on my computer. The error I get says "it is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. . . . . The network path was not found."

I am attempting to access thru "view workgroup computers".

I usually will then make a shortcut to the shared directory. In this case, I cant even access the computer to make the shortcut to the directory.

If I type in the IP address, it wont connect.
If I try to type in the path, it wont connect.

Yes, file sharing is on. Folders are shared.

works from some computers, not all of them.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a static and a dynamic range. All the computers are set up sequentially in the static range. This one is in between other computers, and all other computer work fine. Also, I tried changing it to dynamic, and also to another non-used static, and neither worked.

Some computers CAN access directly from the workgroup list of computers, most cant tho. All computers, even the one I cant connect to can connect to me.

I tried renaming the computer, and renamed the user name. Nothing worked.

I tried to remove all networking. I removed file sharing and windows logon, but the tcp/ip does not allow me to uninstall it. I even installed the new tcp/ip V6, but it is running with the old tcp/ip and it doesnt have any configuration for it. Didn't help. I reinstalled the above, and removed all the shared folders, and reran network setup wizard. Nothing helped.

The key I think is that some computers can connect to it. I dont understand how or why. If this can be figured out, it will solve the problem.

I dunno. But you might wanna send the mods a nice PM asking if they could move this thread over to the networking section of the forum. Prolly get more help quicker over there.

I have it there, and so far it has not helped, so I thought technical support may help. I have had responses, but no solutions as of yet.

When you think you've given all teh pertinent info, you find out your still missing some. Sigh . . .

All systems are running XP SP2 and pier to pier. running tcp/ip thru a 100 switch.

Try disabling any firewalls. I have had some firewalls acting funky on Windows networks before.

Windows firewall is not active. No other firewall software is on any machine. We only use the built in firewall in the router.

Are you running XP Home or XP Pro. XP Home will allow 5 computers to be attached to it, XP Pro will allow 10. If the machine you are trying to connect to has XP Home then it may be that 5 other machines are already connected to it, so it will not allow yo to connect to it.

Make sure that all computers are in the same workgroup.

Try pinging between the 2 machines, both ways. If you can ping, but not connect the I would look at how the machines are configured. If you cannot ping check that the machines are on the same network, with the same subnet mask.

Just my 2p worth.

All computers are on XP PRO, all on the same network, all the same subnet. Some computers can connect to it, it can connect to every computer, I can connect to every computer EXCEPT that one.

I wasnt able to ping it before I reinstalled all the network configurations again. Now I can ping it, AND it can ping me, but I still cannot connect to it.

***** THIS IS WEIRD *****

I went to the other machine to ping my machine, and ran ipconfig and got some weird stuff. Instead of the usual IP, subnet, and default info, I have a second IP address calling out. That address is as follows:

fe80::20c:f1ff:fe9b:5016%4.

There are also two other sections called "Tunnel Adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: and Tunnel Adapter Automatic Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: Each have only 1 field filled in, the IP address field, and both are similar to the above, but different.

I checked other machines, and this is the only machine that has it. what is it? How to get rid of it, and is it what is causing all my issues?

Sounds like you have some sort of VPN interface on the problem machine. Maybe other machines connect to it via the VPN. This could explain why your other machine cannot connect as the problem machine may already have 10 connections. Try disconnecting a few of the machines that connect to it, and then try connecting from your machine.
