Quick questions:
How much % does Coinstar take? Is there a limit to the %? I have close to $100 and don't want to lose a chunk of it.

Do they take dollar coins? I have about 30 of them.

I was going to go through my Chase branch, but they want me to wrap them individually, put my account number on each roll, then send them off the be weighed before they add the money to my account. That's bullshit since the ones in the nicer areas of Manhattan have the tellers count the change for them if it's their primary branch.

This will be my first time using Coinstar; there is a TD bank near me, but they take 10.5% of whatever you put in. :(

No cut if you elect a gift card instead of cash.

Amazon is on the list of cards. iTunes used to be, don't know if this is still the case.

Do they? I'm going to spend it on Amazon anyway. I have a ton of money in Discover cashback + I was going to use this.

That would be frigging awesome.

EDIT: HA - they do offer Amazon GC for no fee. That's freaking perfect. :)
Still a high fee for people who don't care about gift cards...

Go to bank. Deposit the change. Withdraw money
Yep, back in 1975. The modern bank and even credit union screws its customers. "Yes, that is a perfectly serviceable coin counter sitting back there behind our counter. No, we can't count your coins and deposit the money into your account. As the OP says you have to roll and label your coins because, well, screw you."

It's really stupid to use coinstar not only because of the fee, but because coins are worth more than their face value... actually, some are worth more, others worth zero... the face value is an illusion as Andrew Jackson forewarned us. That said, I hold onto my older pennies especially and I'm going to get paid exactly what I want for them, not govt value, unless i am threatened with force of arms being used against me if I don't give them up.

To summarize... you're not only paying coinstar the fee on its face, you could be paying them several times more and you're never gaining anything. The convience can't be worth 10% especially if you have like 400 or more pennies.

Yeah, it's complete BS. Chase wants me to wait 3-4 weeks for it to be counted, and I'm sure they will cheat me somehow.

i just go to my bank (capital one) they have the coin counters for free if you are a member. i dump them in there, get a ticket, then deposit it like i would a check.

i also throw random pennies in the trash that i find around the house.

Do you plan to melt and separate the metals at home?

So there are machines where you can dump in loose change, essentially garbage, and get actual money out? Nice.

No, but i see no reason to pay more than i think it is worth to convert them especially when copper will only go up in value? I mean, if you're going to spend all of the cash right away, you don't have room for them, and you don't mind paying the face fee, then you'll be fine. However, the govt banking complex that I'm sure you don't like just get to save it all and the system artificially drives up the cost of raw materials that way. I may be able to sell them to someone who makes copper products and they can melt them or separate them, but I'm going to wait until i think that the time is right.

Same here.

Drop in coins
Spits out paper receipt
Bring receipt to teller

Profit?

My credit union charges more than chase does for coin counting o_O
