i know nothing about networking so i was hoping someone might be able to shed some light for me.
i have a web hosting package with 1&1 and its domain/address is currently something like http://blahblahblah.onlinehome.us
i would like to purchase a domain in the form of "www.domain.com" and i see that domain registration costs $5.99 a year at 1&1. i am curious as to whether i can purchase the domain and completely replace "http://xxxxxxxxx.onlinehome.us" with "www.domain.com" thus when i log on with FTP, or set my e-mail accounts, i can use "email@domain.com" or "<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="ftp://domain.com"><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="ftp://domain.com">ftp://domain.com</a></a>" as opposed to "email@blahblahblah.onlinehome.us" or "<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="ftp://blahblahblah.onlinehome.us"><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="ftp://blahblahblah.onlinehome.us">ftp://blahblahblah.onlinehome.us</a></a>"
in my hosting package, i can set up multiple email mailboxes under the domain "xxxxxxxxx.onlinehome.us" i want to be able to set up many mailboxes, in the same way, under "domain.com" instead. 1&1's package says it comes with 200 email ALIASES, which probably means it can forward 200 variations of "name@domain.com" to an email address. that is good, but what i need is to be able to SEND from several different "name@domain.com" addresses instead of just recieving them there.
do i have to purchase the more expensive mail package which comes with 5 mailboxes to do this? thanks.
EDIT: the domain service says it comes with DNS configuration, if that makes any difference.
