I have a 4800 x2 on order should I cancel it and get the Opteron 180?

From what I can tell the Opteron is based on the FX core and the X2 isn't. This should help for OC'ing, but clock for clock is it faster than the 4800 x2 in games?

Things were so much easier when the pentium 75 came out........

Thanks

Get the Opteron 170. $356 at monarch, and you can get 2600 easy OC'ed. Clock for clock the same, just OC's better. I know....

same chip just different clock name and most importantly price... I agree w/ mark get 170 and save! Why give AMD anymore money than you have to?

If you have a fat budget, the Opteron 180 would be kick ass, but if you have an sense at all, the highest to be considered is the Opteron 175 because you'd pay $300 for that extra 200MHz...

Opteron 165 - average I've seen $300 1.8GHz
Opteron 170 - average I've seen $400 +200MHz
Opteron 175 - average I've seen $500 +200MHz
Opteron 180 - average I've seen $800 +200MHz

Hmm.... I wonder if the 180 offers a decent value?

To each his own. If its what you want and you feel comfortable paying the price go for it. Myself, I just ordered the 175 + dfi ultra d. (by the way..the price of the 175 OEM went down today at monarch)

I went to monarch this morning to drop 460.00 on a 175. By lunch the price had fallen 20.00 Of course I gave a call in and asked if I'd be asking too much for the difference back. "There are no price adjustments" I was very coolly informed. Now that's how to keep a customer. I won't let it dampened my holiday spirits though. Nothing like a good holiday build. : )

I could go the cancelation route, but then I may risk having to actually sit down to dinner on thursday. : )

I wasn't impressed with my first (and only) Monarch experience. I prefer ZipZoomFly whenever the price is reasonable.

Talk to someone else there. If you ordered in the morning and the price dropped by lunch, they should be able to do SOMETHING.

If your referring to getting the combo by Thur. you won't. You ordered yours the same day that I ordered mine and I spoke with a rep and he told me that it takes them 2 to 3 days IN HOUSE to get your order processed. If your lucky you may get it next Fri. Best bet is that it will come by the following Tue. :( I will be eating turkey at the table Thur too....

Well I uh, kinda, pushed it along with a few extra pfennigs. Another reason I was averse to challenging the order. It's on it's way and FedEx has it slated for tuesday. Let's just say I don't take surprises very well. I can certainly think of worse addictions. : )
