I have a 14 hour stopover at Paris (CDG) airport. Is it worthwhile......

Update 2:

Sucks. Just happened to look up why the tower was closed. Started on the one day I happen to pass by. O well. Maybe a future endeavor.

Update:

Took the RER to the Eiffel tower and the damn thing was closed.

Heading back to airport lounge now.

Hey all! Got an upcoming trip to South Africa and I had enough points to book a business class 😎 ticket on Air France. Only caveat is the 16 hour stopover in Paris. I was wondering if it was worthwhile to go out to sight see and then get back in time for the flight.

I'll arrive at 7:30 AM and my flight isn't until 11:20 PM. So I can probably be out by 9AM and have to get back by 9PM.

This will be in June 2013 by the way.

Any help appreciated.

I vote for sitting at the airport what if you get drunk and miss your plane. There is nothing to see in Paris anyways. BTW if you go buy all tickets on line to avoid the huge lines.
While in SA say hi to DieAntwoord

how's the security of going in and out of the airport ? Also do you have carry on luggage to you need to haul around ?

I would have breakfast at a Paris coffee shop and then go the Louvre. After that I would take a rickshaw to the Eiffel Tower for more sight seeing and lunch. Then take a horseless carriage to a local mall and shop. While there, try to engage the locals in light banter.

Finally, stop by a local dive for some greasy spoon fare and head back to the airport for your trip over deepest Africa. Upon landing in Le Republique De Sudafrica, greet the first person you see and say, "Dr. Livingston, I presume?"

CDG is the worst airport in the world. I hope the workers aren't on strike when you fly through or there will be serious delays as well as issues with any baggage you've checked.

Even better if he's dressed like this:

I don't drink. At all. I also already did the "sitting at the Paris airport for 12 hours" once already (in 2005) because I didn't have a US passport at the time.

No, I think you should just sit in the airport for 14 hours instead.

business class = access to airport lounge
good food (ie: eggs/deli meats/etc), top shelf drinks, internet, tv
all FREE

having said that.. GO OUT and visit paris for 12hrs you fool!
come back to lounge for last 2hrs

I would do it. Your luggage will likely be stored for the connecting flight so you won't have to worry about that. If not I would imagine CDG has a bag-check area.

In 2009 I had a 9-hour layover at Heathrow. Buuuuut it was starting at 11pm. So I sat at the airport the whole time. Slow torture.

On A380?

If so, it's very nice aircraft, can't even compare to Boeing 747.
A380 - very smooth on take off and on landing. And very quite, even if your seat is next to engines.
Business class - on upped deck where's first class too.
