I have a 500 buck budget to put together a 5.1 system which will be used for about 70% movies and 30% music. What kind of speakers should I look into?

I've heard good things about Fluance, anyone here own a set?

I recommend Athena.. but then again, my living room is full of Athenas.
Do they have a 5.1 set for $500 or less?

The micra set + a cheap receiver might be close.

For an onkyo set like Agaboogaboo mentioned, the 790 set is about $400 and is pretty decent.

I've used and heard a couple fluance sets in the past. They're ok but nothing too special.

If you really need floorstanders, you might want to check out the deals Fry's / Outpost has on Polk R series.

Aperion Audio is definately the way to go. Affordable and they sound great. Thei bookshelf speakers should be in your price range and will work well. For the price these guys can't be beat. They only sell direct too.

Hmm Aperions cheapest system is $799 for a 6.1 setup. I honestly don't think you will find a good system for $500 or less.

If you can find them, the Athena Point 5 MKII system is great for under $200. Check your local best buy if they've still got them.

Add an HSU stf-1 for $250 and you've got a good system for less than $500. That's assuming you have a receiver already.
