NEC Multisync 95F 19" ? Stay away from Envision, their montiors above 17" are HORRIBLE. Sony Triniton monitors are sweet.

Your best bets will be Newegg, CDW and Dell's store. As for 17" Screens, you should gun for a Sony Trinitron (if you can find one) or the Samsung 765MB...that is a very nice screen.

For 19" Screens, I definitely recommend the NEC FP912SB monitor. I don't know of ANYONE that hates the monitor too ;). Another choice would be the Viewsonic G90fb (the non-black version being just the G90f of course). The Viewsonic G90fb is about $250 and it is also highly thought of. I enjoyed looking at it when I saw the monitor and it will be my next monitor if I can't find a decent FP912SB when it comes time to buy one. Depending on the pay of a new job, I may go for an LCD instead. The FP912SB is under $300, so don't worry about that. Another excellent choice would be the MultiSync FE991SB-BK monitor. Also around $250, it is a choice (I don't know, it might still be) on Alienware's game-rig configurator for a CRT monitor. While people have said small text can get fuzzy, others have said it is just the brightness that causes that. That aside, I know people thought it looked AMAZING in games. If you want to avoid uncertainty, go for the Samsung 957MB too...but it might be over $300.

These are monitors that I have seen for myself and would recommend (in no particular order) from one gamer (me) to another:
17":
[*]Samsung 765MB
[*]Sony Trinitron CPD-E240/B (I think thats the right model of the screen I saw)

19":
[*]Samsung 957MB
[*]NEC MultiSync FP912SB
[*]Viewsonic G90fb

If quality is your first priority, then definitely go for the FP912SB if you find it decently priced. Last I saw on Dell's store, it was $280 plus shipping, and that wasn't during a sale. The FP912SB has the BEST quality, followed by the 957MB and then the G90fb. The 17" ones I saw had about the same quality (both were fantastic).

I hope I was of some help to you!

Well I can't find it at the usual spots either. I would recommend the FE991SB that Anandtech also recommends for their midrange system, or the G90fb. If you order from Dell, the FE991SB-BK (black) is $266 with free 3-5 day shipping. I think the same is true for the G90fb, but it could be free shipping at Newegg as well. I have used both and they are great...its just some people are anal about 'fuzziness' that I personally have never ever seen when i've sat in front of that monitor and you have to take that into account online (whether they would be the same or not).

If you can find the FP912SB, then great! If you can't, then just go for the FE991SB/FE991SB-BK or G90f/G90fb.

You really want a diamondtron tube....they dont make the trinitrons anymore, and they are hard to come by. I've been on a similar search for a nice 19in CRT, only one comes up...NEC/MITSUBISHI DP930SB-BK 19-inch Diamond Pro 930SB Black CRT Monitor

The NEC912SB and Mitsubishi DP930 are the exact same monitor. They have higher specs(resolution, refresh, etc.) across the board than the FE991.

NEC has a great warranty service. They cross-shipped my buddy a replacement monitor giving him a monitor to use and a box to ship back in. Next day delivery too! :)

I was impressed!

I agree, WobbleWobble. NEC makes great monitors and has great warranties. Well, the 957MB that I saw had impossibly sharp text. PCWorld also seems to agree with me. They had it at #1 for a long time until the FP912SB, which is now #1. The 957MB is #3 and they describe it like this:
A good choice for sharp text and vivid graphics at a midrange price. One button offers three color-temperature settings. Adjustable highlight box lets you brighten selected screen areas.
For the FP912SB
The top performer in our graphics tests displayed sharp, easy-to-read text, too. Superbright mode brought out detail in movies, pictures, and games.
I love the G90f, don't get me wrong, but if I had to go for quality over price for a 19in screen I would say the FP912SB or the Samsung 957MB. Yes, I realize the Mitsubishi DiamondPro screen is the same as the FP912SB as well :). To be honest, I could only tell slightly that the FP912SB was better than the 957MB. If you can find the FP912SB or the Mitsubishi equivalent, I would definitely go for that first. I don't think there is any disagreeing about that on these forums ;). I really recommend the 957MB if you find that and not the DiamondTron monitors because that was one of the better monitors that I have seen for quite a while.

The FE991 is a very good monitor and I am seriously thinking of it for a monitor purchase (not anytime soon) but the other guy is right: the FP912SB/DP930 is better across the board than the FE991SB. This is not to say that the FE991SB isn't a good monitor; the FE991SB is a great monitor as well.

I remember reading that Sony stopped making 19" CRT's, or was it 17"? Anyways, I recommend a Sony, or a NEC/Mitsubishi, or a Viewsonic. You could probably get the Viewsonic 19" A90f+ for ~$200 (Bestbuy has it for $230, saw it couple of days back in store). Flat screen, .25dp, good image quality, plus the thing I liked was they have this button that makes it really bright "Ultrabrite". The feature could be really helpful in games, in dark areas, I remember having to turn the brightness up and down on my monitor whenever I wanted to play.
I personally am on a KDS AV195TF (Sony FD Trinitron tube), great picture quality from the tube. But I have mixed feelings about KDS. I bought their monitor 4 years ago, when it had a Trinitron tube, not the FD one. Paid a ton for it, but I had wanted a 19" and a trinitron. Well, took 4 monitors before I got this one that I am currently using (this is my 5th one, has lasted the longest and hope it keeps working :) fingers crossed). Their warranty policy has to be given credit here. Their "Kares" program paid for the shipping of each one of those monitors (except one, long story), and then would ship me one first, and when I had tried it, I would call them up and they would arrange the pickup at my convenience. At times I would call em 2 months later and they would not charge the credit card they had on file. Did this for 3 years from the date I bought the original monitor. I believe viewsonic requires you to pay shipping if something goes wrong with the monitor. Best warranty plan I know off, but iffy product.
Anyways, done ranting :) hope that helped someone.

Mitsu models are more expensive than NEC models even if the monitors itself is the same. Why I don't know.

wobble wobble, Guess I decided to go with the mitsubishi dp930 after a bit more studying. Superior lens gun to the 991. Newegg has the 930 and I found a great price on it at securemart for 290 bucks free shipping.
DP930

Also Gateway has it for 304.00 free shipping. I will prob go with Gateway since I know nothing about securemart and securemart will not exchange or rma a nec monitor, got to send it back to manufacturer.
