I'm thinkin the P4 2.4C with the DFI lanparty board (i haven't seen any reviews and i'm kinda scared not knowing much about it.....but the raid 1.5 sounds so good)

w/ 512 DDR400 (should i go with pc3500 memory?)....maybe 1 gig if theres any $$$ left
the AIW 9700...the 9800 is just a bit better so i say just stick with the 9700 aiw
2 80gig HDDs
a dvd/cd rw
a dvd player
may get a trios (i have extra HDDs for it)
a second NIC to share the connection
i havent decided on a case yet.....i shouldn't get one with a door since i want some control devices in the bay, right?

i've set aside some money for a 17 LCD so don't worry about a monitor

does it sound good??

DFI Lan party?? :p You can do better than that. 255 MHz FSB is not enough to overclock a 2.4C. You need 275 - 300. Go for an Abit IC7 instead.

As far as memory goes, that is hard to say. It really depends on overclocking, what FSB you wind up at, and what mem ratio you use. I would go with 2 x 512 of Corsair or Kingston HyperX.

I'll second oldfart's notion to get an IC7. Abit has been great in the past for me.

I love my IC7, don't get the G version unless you need Intel CSA LAN and ther Serillel Adapters because those are the only differences for about 60-80 bucks depending on where you look. I have an IC7 and got my 2.53GHZ SL6S2 chip to 3.44GHZ no problem and with your C chip you should have even better luck!

Dont like it. Too expensive, 1 stick of ram for DC DDR?? Ummmm....NO. Cheapo HS/F, FX5600. Not a good system.

Why are you looking at IC7-G instead of IC7? Do you need GigE? I doubt it.

my tip to you: buy the "best" most important components now-like ram, mobo, video card etc -to get your PC running. forget about TV-tuner,extra hard drive, DVD burner, lights etc for now coz they can just follow when youre able to save $$ again.

heres a quote from a local PC store....i think this is insanely cheap
http://members.cox.net/srx456/pc.JPG

now if i knock off sum of the parts i don't need (jojo you're right....DVD-rw will be a lot faster later and cheaper later on, the cd/dvd rom, the keyboard/mouse, speakers and OS) i can prolly kick it up to 2.6C a gig of ram and get more money to spend on the lcd

i just want to future proof my pc as much as i can thanks why i'm stressin the ic7 g

if DFI were to release a BIOS to make the FSB higher would it be good, it has many nice features and it looks the best IMO.....you think the only bad thing about it is its OC FSB limit?

Me? I'd get a laptop - already have 2 pretty speedy PC's, and one's about to get faster - have a new motherboard and RAM on the way.:D

The monitor part - I think MaximumPC, or PC World, don't remember which, suggested that you invest money in a GOOD monitor, keyboard, and mouse - you're going to be staring at the monitor a lot, and using the mouse and keyboard heavily. They aren't as likely to be upgraded out as RAM or a video card. Example - the monitor I'm using now has survived several upgrading bouts; I'm with an Epox 8RDA+ now. Before that, it was an 8KHA+, before that, Shuttle AK35GTR, before that Epox 8KTA3+; can't remember what was before that. Same monitor all throughout it - Nokia Multigraph 447XPro; love it. It's "only" 17", but it works, and has a damn fine picture. My keyboard dates back to when I had a Pentium II 300 - an Acer that cost me $6.95 at a computer show.

512MB-1GB of RAM is good.
And maybe go with a Radeon 9800 Pro; check out SVC.com for cheap cold cathodes and PC mod-type stuff. They usually have the best deals on that sort of thing.

ABIT IC7-G, Intel 875P chipset for Socket 478 800MHz Canterwood ATX Motherboard RETAIL $229.00
Holy mother of God! So much for Intel's low motherboard prices offsetting the higher cost of their CPU's.

My last rig was $1305 and is now about $50 cheaper - a whole three weeks has passed :).

P4 2.66 at 160FSB - 3.2GHz
Abit BH-7
512MB XMS-3500 4:5 memory divider at DDR400 2-5-2-2
ATI 9700 PRO OEM
WD1200JB
Samasung Black 16X DVD
Lite-On 562x24x52 Black CDRW
Mitsumi Black 3-1/2 floppy
Antec TrueBlue 480 PS
Lian-Li modified PC-80 Case w/ Window and 5 Fans
Dual Blue Cold Cathode Lite Kit
5 Crystal Blue LED 80mm Fans - Quiter than the stock fans.
120mm Aluminum Fan
120mm to 80mm Fan Adapter
Alpha 8942 Heatsink

Wife threw in a pair of fuzzy dice after I was done for my "guido" machine as she calls it :) - But I wanted something that looked a little more cool than the standard beige case - even black is getting boring with the Dell's I have.

I added a lot of extras gimmicks for looks - at a $1300 budget you could skip the looks, pickup the IC-7 add a pair of WD360 raptors in RAID 0 and a 10/100 nic. Abit's onboard sound is pretty good as well.

I paid $152 for my IC7. The -G has GigE which is not needed for the vast majority of users. 865PE boards will be out soon (some are already) for low $100s.
