I already have an LCD, a keyboard, mouse and speakers. This is just to replace the box.

320 gig seagate SATA II 95
eVGA 8800gts w/320MB DDR 3 339
XFX nForce 650i ddr2-800 quad compatible lg-775 8 gig max 125
Kingston dual channel 667 mhz (1024MB X 2) kit 110
Core 2 Duo E4300 1.80GHz 2MB Cache 149
Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme Aluminum Heatsink for P4-775 / AM2 69
OCZ 600W StealthXStream Power Supply w/ Quad +12V 99
antec Nine Hundred Gaming Case 120
Samsung 18x burner with lightscribe 37

The total is $1143 and with GST it is roughly $1200. I can't spend more than this...is the best gaming system I can do at this price? If not, what should i replace?

Not sure if its the best, but you'll be hapy with it. Not sure what that totals up to in US dollars, perhaps thats why nobody replied.

Are you planning on overclocking the 4300? If not, I'd work a few extra hours and get a 6600.

I would get rid of the gaming case and use that money towards the purchase of the 8800 640 mb version.

Just pick up a cheap case somewhere.

I don't see a fan for that Thermalright in there...I'd highly recommend you get a 120mm Scythe S-Flex fan to go with that Thermalright, especially if you plan to overclock.

The system plan you have looks OK, but a few comments. You can get PC2-6400 RAM for about the same money as the Kingston you have listed. Also, there have been a LOT of reports of problems with the TR-Ultra120 Extreme. You may want to look into a Tuniq Tower instead until TR gets the kinks ironed out.

There have been problems with the TR? I read a couple good reviews on it. And the upgrade in ram will run in Cdn at least another 60...i want to overclock but not huge.

I agree with the case argument. Im just thinking that case could last a long time in future builds, plus isnt the gts a long card? most cheap cases are small...but i guess i could find something smaller and use the extra 70 for some 800 mhz ram.

Thanks :)

There have been some issues with the quality of the finish on the CPU plate. Also for socket 775 the whole HSF tends to move around a bit. The one I just got from newegg was fine.

Let me make some suggestions for you.

1) Check NCIX.com, directcanada.com, and ANITEC.ca for the best prices.. make sure you click the sale banner at the top, try to avoid buying at the inflated regular prices (the sale prices are actually the REAL prices.. I hate marketing, but so it goes...)

500GB 7200.10 Seagate $126 (anitec.ca)
8800 GTS 320MB $320 - $20MIR (ncix.com)
OCZ Platinum Rev 2 DDR2800 $145 - $50MIR (anitec.ca)
Core 2 Duo E4300 $130 (ncix or anitec)
Thermalright Ultra120 Extreme $65 (ncix)
Scythe S-Flex 120mm fan $13 (ncix)
Asus P5K P35 $170 (anitec)
OCZ GameXStream 600W $108 - $10 MIR (ncix)
Antec nine hundred $114 (ncix)
Samsung Burner $37

Total: $1228 - $80 MIR = $1148

And you have a better system :) You can also price everything at NCIX and ask them to throw in free shipping for you. Or, ask on the forum for a 500point donation to buy the free shipping for your order; then, when you get your parts, write some reviews on the site and return the points to your donor. There's usually nice people around there.

*EDIT* this assumes your LCD is 19 or 20 inches.. if it's bigger, get the 640MB 8800GTS on sale for $395 - $30MIR

Oh, and you could buy the PSU from me :) OCZ 700W GameXstream, brand new, $100 :)
