I hate trigonometry, I hate trig substitution, and I hate integration.

god damn stuff doesn't make any sense. What the hell an I suppsoed to do with integral(tan x)^2 dx? I Know I'm supposed to automatically recognize some stupid identity from some trig class I got a C in 8 years ago. How the fvck am I supposed to remember that? I hate this crap. I have to glance at a problem and be able to tell that it fits into some non-standard form of some stupid trig identity...

<- waits for the "calculus is easy, wait till you take math course X" posts...

Well, only way to remember is do the problems again!😀

BTW, I think for that problem you need to apply the chain rule

You'll start to have some of that stuff memorized as you do the homework. It sucks for a while having to look things up.

If you feel lazy, use a table of integrals. The answer to your problem is tan x - x + C

That'd be great if I wasn't being tested on it tomorrow....

Can you bring a TI-89? They do symbolic calculus.

I can bring it, I just can't turn it on. I wonder why I ever bought this thing... no one ever lets me use it in class.

you have to practice a lot... and it becomes more natural with time.

Trig identities are sorta like the advanced equivalent of times tables - everythings much much easier if you know them.

You do that integral like this, btw:

(tan x)^2 = 1 + (sec x)^2
integral of 1 is x,
integral of (sec x)^2 is (tan x)
plus a constant of integration

Any form of math is bad, bad, bad 😱.

<~~~ legally mathematically retarted, anything beyond the number 6 and you've lost me

Sucks even more when you do better than most in ANY OTHER SUBJECT. Working with the geeks is a pretty good way to get better though, that's what I always did. Just tell them you wont take their lunch money for a week and they are more than willing to help out 😀.

Calculus is easy, wait until you get into dynamics and various models... or even better, theoretical mathematics... "WTF is a quantum?!?!?" <--- me in my independent study session

I feel for you, my head hurts again trying to remember all these identies.

<--- ran though all the math courses, got C's in each level ... *sigh*🙁

Keep your TI 89... I bought it two years ago and had 1 1/2 years of not being able to use it.. But now, all my professors expect that kind of calculator so you can do integration on the fly..

Like, in my circuits class, he expects to teach circuits; not mathematics. So, he wants us to have a TI 89 so we can integrate very quick so he can ask us a boatload more questions on the exam and expect them to be done in 50 minutes.
