I hate todays plastic packaging

I hate blister packaging. Worst part of it is, if you want to return the product, the package is often completely destroyed from trying to open it.

I find that the best tool for opening said packages is a blowtorch. The plastic quickly disintegrates when exposed to open flame, and gives off a rather satisfying scent after struggling with more conventional package opening attempts.

Use this new invention to open those packages you idiot. 😀

Even the Deluxe model has some troubles with the crap they cover things in, though. I swear, you can't get into these things without destroying the packaging, making it impossible to return if there are defects.

i depise that kind of packaging. not only is it difficult to open, after you are done with it the package is totally destroyed and unusable again.

A part of the packaging may be to deter theft too. They hide those "no um stealer ums" inside the packages so the "no um stealer um detector ums" detect them. It's a bitch to open those up in the stores 😛

I can't. The edges are way too thick for a scissors to cut through.

which SD brand did you get? I Just got a Sandisk 512mb SD card from dell...in that plastic packaging...just used some scissors on 1 edge and it cut easily. After that I Just peeled it open.

yup. I think they still have to take it back though.

Try opening a bunch of retail Athlon processors for a big build. 😛

OEM for big builds.

Seriously, I hate those plastic packages almost as much as all the scurity tape and wrapping they have on DVD cases.

I was just curious as to the price you paid... and I noticed at Dell, the price on the 512 is different for the medium/large business vs. smallb or home... WTF is up with that ? Why does Dell do that categorization thing ? I also find that home users are often better off buying in small business.

i paid $48.86 + tax and there is a $15 rebate with it. So about $35 after rebate/taxes. Not the best deal, but I needed one w/ the SD300 I just bought from Dell and i used a coupon that was 35/400.

I love the super sticky security tape on DVDs that stick to the thin file around the DVD case. Remove the tape around the DVD and tear/warp the film. Hey fvcker!, that's MY part of the packaging. Anyways, looks like they switched to less sticky security tape recently, but I still buy a DVD every now and then that has it.

Haha... how many of you have simply said "Fvck it" and just chopped the packaging in half with a big pair of scissors only to find you cut all the documentation that was hidden in the paper backing in half? I've done that several times. Fortunately I rarely ready any instructions or documentation anyway.

If you want to have a little fun, ask the store personnel to open it for you after you purchase something.

A few months ago I bought an extra SD card on the way to a family event so I could use it in my camera since I forgot to bring the laptop and had nowhere to d/l the pictures. After I got my receipt I asked the cashier to open the package for me. He said he couldn't do that. So I went to the customer service/pickup desk and asked the woman there. She said she couldn't do it either. I asked her to call a manager. The manager listened to my explanation (I needed the thing opened now and did not have scissors), looked at my receipt, and told the CS woman to cut it open for me.

Of course, she was completely paranoid about something happening so she worked at a snail's pace. She was sure there was a trick involved somewhere but at least it wasn't me who got a cut finger that time.

I think I'll do that in the future because maybe if enough people do that they'll change their packaging to something a little less hazardous.
