I hate to start a GOD thread but I have an idea...

I was watching a TV program on the History Channel about Hiroshima and I suddenly got an idea on who/what God is. He/it must be the atom.
Think about it for a second...
What created the earth and space? atoms
God is said to be omnipresent, right, well the atom makes up everything (except a vacuum), including you.
What is the most powerful explosive? an atomic explosion caused the splitting of atoms.
Almost every force, including gravity and nature are caused by the grouping of atoms.

It is an interesting idea. Just raise this question in your philosophy class and have some fun.

you're a little late.

That's a religion already. It's linked to the Force and StarWars.

I forget the name of the religion, but it says that nature all around is God --that there is a little piece of God in everything.

Unless I'm mistaken, even in a vacuum, there's still atoms....they're just really, really far apart and such.

KB -- I believe you just failed Physics 101.

<< What created the earth and space? atoms >>

No. Matter is composed of atoms, but that your statement does not explain how or why atomic physics works.

<< What is the most powerful explosive? an atomic explosion caused the splitting of atoms. >>

I believe a fusion reaction is more powerful than nuclear fission reaction.

<< Almost every force, including gravity and nature are caused by the grouping of atoms. >>

Uh... No. Gravitational force is proportional to mass, but your statement does not begin yo explain how or why it works.

This looks like the age old dicussion: What was first ? The egg or the hen ? Where did the atoms come from then ?

That sounds like wicca.. just a guess.

Shamanism believes in the presence of spirits in everything. Perhaps that is what is being referred to.

Actually, atoms are made up of Quarks and so everything is made up of Quarks and not atoms.

Which are made up of gluons, mesons :p

There is no such thing as a perfect vacuum. Quantum physics prevents it.

I think that those Royal Vacuums are pretty near perfet. all metal parts and a lifetime warranty. What more could you ask of a vacuum?

Royal Vacuum

what I think is neat is that gluons and mesons don't "really" exist. There is a probability that they will be one place or another, so youare made of probabilities. Therefore: God is a statistitian/quantum mechanic.

"What're quantum mechanics?"
"I don't know. People who repair quantums, I suppose."

She's also a great singer. Have you ever heard cosmic background radiation? If you think it's just static, listen more intently...

The entire problem with placing God in a physical shell (the atom), you limit the presence to a given dimension... if you said God was a super string, then it exists in 10 dimensions and suffers from severe reductionism IMO.

When discussing God, my idea was that God is NOT a physical thing... the notions of essences come in to play, whether be thet essence of humanity, or the essence of knowledge, the driving force of existence beyond the realm of electric impulses in the brain...

nonetheless, I'm glad your exploring the notion of God rather than assuming it's a human-like guy that sits in some clouds thundering down, or dismissing the notion based on lack of sensary existence.

God is a probability. Sounds good don't it? Doesn't put any restrictions on it, explains why bad things happen to good people, and why good things happen to bad people.
