Ok, so I go in and get my non drivers ID, which you have to have your SS card and birth certificate when you apply for it. Then I go back for my permit, and I misplaced my birth certificate. They then tell me that my non drivers ID which they issued a week before is not good enough proof of ID? I know with September 11th, they need to be more careful, I do understand that, and I am really happy that they are. (which is why I didn't bitch at them, I know they are just doing their job) But its just senseless, because now I have to go order a copy of something to show them, that they just saw. I mean, my picture is on their screen, they know its me. Its just pretty bad when they can't even trust their own state issued IDs. 😛

So you go in for a State ID (Nondriver)
A week ago, you got a state ID (nondriver)
And you go down a week later to get your permit (today???? For what???)

I'm LOST!!!!
 
Yeah, I finally got up my nerve to get my permit and learn to drive. I am horrified of driving, and of cars, so its taken me years to get to this point. Then they turn me down! Dammit. 😛
 
Okay, I got confused that you went in today to get a 2nd state ID. You went in today to a learner's permit to drive. Last week you got a state ID.
 
Seems wierd that they won't accept the NYS non-driver's ID as a valid form of ID for your permit in NYS... I know 3 years ago when I got my permit, the non-driver's ID I had gotten a couple years before that was perfectly valid for ID for getting my permit. Didn't need to show them a birth certificate or anything else for my permit other than the non-driver's ID. Have you gotten the actual photo ID in yet? If you have just the paper one that they issued you as a temporary ID while they process the photo ID, then it's not surprising that they'd turn you down with just that.

Yeah, its the picture one, they won't take it. Maybe they changed the rules since the 11th, that wouldn't shock me at all.
 
well... here are the ID requirements for permits and licenses in NYS... it does appear that they changed some of the rules... either that or I remember wrong not having to show my birth certificate to get my permit even though I had my non-driver ID.... 3 years was such a long time ago LOL

GF, let me tell you a story....about how this kid went to the DMV to get his license

ok, so i get to the DMV. it's 3 PM. i get in line for my 3:30 appt. 4 PM. someone takes my info. tells me to sit down and wait for my examiner. then all the people go on break. now its 4:30 PM. now its 5 PM. this cute chick sits down across the room and waits for her examiner. then everyone comes off break. me, the guy who's been wating for an hour gets an examiner. on my way out the door, the cute chick whos been waiting less than 5 minutes gets an examiner as well. *sigh* ok, i take the test. everything is cool. didnt hit anything. came back into the building so they could do my awful pic. (by then i had been in the DMV for over 2 hours). then i realize i left my lights on. i told the examiner i needed to give my dads keys back to him, so i did and told him to turn off his lights. then i got my awful, awful pic. hey, when you've been waiting around for flat-footed state employees to get off their asses and do something, its an ordeal. but then i'm on my way out. aformentioned cute chick is done with her road test. i notice she left her lights on too, but was too tired to do a damn thing. then i left and went home. of course my parents didnt let me drive alone for another 4 months, but thats a different story
