I tried that mod on a BFG6800nu about a month ago. I verified all 16 pipes worked beforehand. Anyway, I moded the exact resistors in the picture. I then flashed a my moded 6800GT BIOS (lower RAM speed). I moded my BIOS from my BFG6800GT using omni extreme edit.

Anyway, only 12 pipes are still enabled by default.

Using RivaTuner unlocks all the pipes and vertex shaders successfully with no artifacting.

It did no damage to the card, but had no benefit.

Maybe I'll have another go at it again.

Are you pissed because theres a product everyone likes and talks about? Easy. Will you click on a link that says "Gay Pics", if you dont like men you obviously just ignore it.

Hey, the man wants to flame. If he does, we can all just ignore it. Without participants, it isn't a flame fest - just a lone flame that eventually goes out on its own.

But masshass81 was right. This belongs in Video - that's where videocard flamefests generally smolder.

Welp, the 6600 should be a $150 card and is thus deserving of some hate for being overpriced. But really, don't hate the playa, hate the game (i.e. the cruelties of supply and demand, lackluster competition in the segment and price gouging). 😉

Whoever said that the 6600GT is about the same as a 6800 NU is just plain wrong.

Also,
I never said money grows on trees but for people on a tight budget, if you can't spare an extra $30.00 to upgrade shouldn't be look at spending $230.00 on a graphics card in the first place. Like I said a $150.00 card will do and with the $100.00 they save they can do a whole lot more.

😉

That is the most disrespectful thing I have seen in a long time. You are a complete idiot.

You don't float my boat either. So what else is new? My rig was named before any disaster. Thats the name of my case. Do I have to explain myself?

Also, complete idiot as in you have any clue who I am? I don't think so.

To tell you the truth, I don't have any desire to. :disgust:

The 9800 Pro actually performs better than thhe 6600gt at the game I want to play most - HL2

Are you high? The 9800 Pro is slower than a 6600GT in Half-Life 2 by about 10 FPS in pretty much every situation. If you don't believe me, then believe Anand. The benchmarks are all right there.

Also, it's worth noting that the 6800NU only gains a SLIGHT (about 10-15%) performance advantage over the 6600GT when AA and AF are on heavy, such as 4xAA/8xAF, and at high resolutions. Other than that, they are dead even. 10% more performance with AA for $100 more? No thanks.

If you can't see that the 6600GT is obviously the better buy, you're economically ignorant.

I'm getting a 6600GT for $160-$180 once I get my NF4 board. Will there be a $70-90 difference by going with a 6800? I think not

Oh yeah this thread is useless.

Everyone is telling me to go with the 6600GT option. I won't do this because 1) PCIe has no advantages over AGP as of now. 2) the 9800Pro handles everything I throw at it fine and when I need to upgrade I'll get a 6800U AGP. 3) The 9800 Pro actually performs better than thhe 6600gt at the game I want to play most - HL2

The 9800 pro does not outperform a 6600GT in HL2. But, IMO, I would stick with the 9800, get an agp athlon 64 board, and pickup a new video card whenever the current generation cards prices drop a bit.

Firingsquad Review
Anandtech Review

I agree with you about what I should do as far as upgrade wise, but I beg to differ about the 6600gt vs. 9800pro in HL2. Take a look - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articl...display/half-life.html

In most of the tests (90%) the 9800pro does just as good or better than the 6600gt AGP or PCIe.
Thats odd, both anandtech and firingsquad show the 9800pro getting beaton soundly in a large variety of benchmark configs (9800pro loses in every test on both sites). In some of these tests, the 9800pro is losing by over 100% . The numbers on the xbit article border on fabrication assuming the anandtech and firingsqaud articles are competant (which they are). In the xbit article comments, they defend there methodology, but there results seem skewed so far that it makes me doubt their credibility.

You know I never thought it was disrespectfull. You know what else? I still don't.

Maybe you can enlighten me on why it's not respectful to use a dictionary word?

That just proves my point. If you can't see why naming your box "Tsunami" is not respectful, then you really need to read up on recent world events. If you had family members there, I doubt you'd be asking that question.

Furthermore, there are members here from all over the world. Think about it, think about it hard before you spew more of your self righteous venom.

I think the best way to show your hatred for the 6600GT is to buy up the world's remaining supply and torch them in a giant bonfire.

By the way, you spelled "satellite" wrong...

Dude, how can you even form a meaningful opinion when you don't even own the card???

Your post would be more credible if you owned BOTH cards wherein you compare the cards objectively based on their merits and weaknesses.

Otherwise, your thread becomes nothing but blah blah blah...

What people don't have a right to an opinion?

Here's mine... the geforce 6600 GT bites.

you. you don't have a right to an opinion.

*waves green flag for flame war.*

6600gt is a good card. it does its job. just like other cards in its price range. i'm glad you can be just like everyone else and be different by hating this mainstream card.

Excellent point about members being from around the world.

self righteous venom? You're the one who's defining what's right and what's wrong. Please, if you want to preach do it at a church not here and not to me.

Also, I really don't need to defend myself but I thought I'd add this. I have read what's happened and I sympathize with the people in that area. I've had close friends growing up who were from that region. I've even donated money. I have felt many sad emotions since I reading and seeing the many personal stories through the media of individuals losing loved ones through this tragedy. And yet I don't feel that naming my Computer "Tsunami" is in ANY WAY disrespectful.

Listen, not that I condone the attitudes here, but the word "Tsunami" has been used in product names, and in this case, Rig names, for quite some time. Granted, in light of recent events, it might not be the best word. But what about a product called "Firestorm?" Sure, now it might be fine. But once a firestorm sweeps across a few states or small countries, then is that word forbidden too? Heck, there's a fan by Vantec named "Tornado." People are killed by tornadoes every year. Another disallowed name?

Ok, that's all on that. Flame fest may now resume.

you are a friggin idiot.

some of us buy video cards for more than gaming. the 6600gt is currently one of the best video cards for HTPC picture quality especially when paired with nvdvd4.xx
