I hate tailgaters. May they all rot.

Ever heard of brakes? Just tap them hard a couple of times and the tailgater will usually drop back about 50 feet.

Then I will tap my brakes, and if you rear-end me, you're paying for it. Smart move, douchbag.

There are a lot of tailgater threads in OT.... half the responses are always "were you in the left lane?" Also, it seems like there is a general assumption that tailgating threads refer to freeway driving. Am I the only one who doesn't deal with tailgating on the freeway, but does in city traffic?

You are not alone, I don't really have a problem on the freeway as I tend to get in and out of the passing lane pretty quickly. In the city I usually drive around 8 or 9 mph over the speed limit, but I guess that isn't fast enough for everyone. I tend to slow down to about the posted speed limit when getting tailgated... screw 'em.

I hate tailgaters too...but I hate people that don't know where they are going and drive 20mph under the speed limit more. What's even worse is when they don't know where they're going, they're driving slow, and fail to use a turn signal.......

That's about how fast I drive too. It's strange, however...some days everyone is going that fast, and other days they're going super slow.

Sunday I was driving through downtown in the afternoon...not much traffic at all, but there were three or four different people going 20MPH, with no cars in front of them, perfectly good visibility, green light...usually in the left lane. WHY???

Around here there are no left lanes. Every road around me for 50 square miles is at best a two lane highway. I drive the speed limit - which is 55. So, no I'm not in the left lane, I'm in the only lane.

If you're in the Midwest (where else is the limit 55?), you're expected to drive 10 over, and 15 over is acceptable.

Nationwide, 5-7 over is the safest speed, according to the traffic engineer my aunt talked to...
