...who think they're driving a car.

Recap:

Driver #1 - Fool in a Suburban is tailgating me (~75mph). Traffic slows, I slow down, he brakes late and skids to a stop. I swear that I saw my life flashin' before my eyes.

Driver #2 - Woman in an Escalade. Two lane O-turn on-ramp to merge onto another fwy. I'm in the left lane, she's in the right one. I let off the gas and downshift to slow down. Apparently she was waiting for my taillights to know when to start braking. She misjudges the turn and swerves into my lane nearly clipping my tail. Good thing that I was in a lower gear and had time to get out of the way.

Before all the Pro SUVers start flaming you, i would like to say. Driving an SUV IS DIFFERENT from driving a lower center of gravity vehicle.

tuffguy does have a point.

i would like to add. i was driving north on Route 1 this morning. this is NOT a LIMITED ACCESS road. what does this mean. this means that there are stop lights and there are frequent stops in the right lane. speed limit, however, is 55 mph. all fine and good. i'm driving in the left lane doing about 70. some guy is tail gating me in an SUV. finally he swerves around me, and starts tailgating the guy in front of me, who was doing about 75 mph. now i realize I too was speeding and probably sounds hypocritical for me to say this, but it seems to me doing over 80 mph on this type of road and swerving in and out of traffic (where i was staying in the left lane) seemed rather dangerous. ESPECIALLY FOR AN SUV. SUV's don't handle as well as lower center of gravity vehicles. I hope no one trys to dispute this.

I personally drive a Bronco, and I know it isnt a car. I drive it like the old POS that it is. Have no fear of me flyin up your ass, my 6mpg keeps me from hitting the gas. I try my best to hold tight at 55mph. Seems I get my best gas milage there.

This happened to me, but he couldn't stop in time so he swerved into the median and rolled. Sonofabitch is lucky he didn't rear end me. Allthough I was in an expedition at the time. I swerved a little bit to the right as he swerved to the left, he must have come within 4 inches of hitting me.

It goes both ways.
I can testify to the fact that a Dodge Neon will do 80mph.
How do I know. I was doing 68mph in morning rush traffic on I-80 and a little green Neon went ripping past me like it was on fire.
The idiot proceeded to do the infamous two lane crossover manuever.

Note to people with econoboxen:
If it doesn't say Mercedes, BMW, Lotus, Ferrari, or Porshe somewhere on the vehicle you've got no business driving it like it does.

And he probably wouldn't have rolled in the first place if it was a regular car. I think SUVs are hard to drive.

am i missing something or was that the intention of Tuffguy with this thread. to point out that SUV drivers that try to drive SUV's like cars are putting more of us in danger.

btw, for the record, i'd rather see someone in a neon trying to drive like that then someone in an SUV. can we say CENTER OF GRAVITY?

I agree with that. The other day some guy in a Taurus was tailgating me really close when I was already doing 65 in a 55. One 30 mph turn and a 50 mph s-curve took care of that real quick though.

bingo! ramming someone's bumper at 80mph in a 2600lb neon is TOTALLY different than taking someone's head off at 80mph in a 5200lb suburban.

I wish we'd jack the fuel prices up to about $10 a gallon then these soccer moms would think twice before buying the 7200 lb. SUV to get a gallon of milk. It's really incredible the damage a 7000 lb vechile will do to a 2500 lb'er.

This is why I hate SUV drivers.

Apparently, checking the other lane or signaling is optional when changing lanes in a SUV.

Here's another beef I have with SUV drivers, tailgating.

If you drive a SUV and like to tailgate little Corollas at night, you better hope it's not me.
I swear the next fvcker who shines the 10 billion watt halogen lamp into my back window I will stop the car
and beat you within an each of your life.

Funny you should mention that cuz' I rarely see any owners of these types of vehicles acting like idiots, unless it's a doctor to an emergency operation or something and yes, I've seen firsthand that docs speeding to emergencies DO get out of speeding tickets.

Bennies of the profession I guess!

Hmmm, never seen that before. But I do get to run red lights and pass on the median :D

BTW, bad drivers are bad drivers, doesn't matter what they are in.

are you honestly going to tell me that a bad driver in a SEMI is the same as the bad driver in a CIVIC???

same point applies to this thread. I'd rather see a bad driver in a neon than in an SUV any day. Why do people argue that point? it's SOOO obvious.

I agree with this, however, a bad driver in a large vehicle can cause a lot more damage.

As for me, I've now been driving an SUV for about a month and I love it. The cargo room has come in useful so many times already, I just leave the rear seats folded flat now! I definitely believe SUV's aren't for everybody though.
