I'd like to make a deposit in her vault depending on pix.

Also, fuck her. What an attention whore. How about donating to your own fucking country. No shortage of fucked up shit there that needs fixing.

Interesting how people think sitting around fantasizing about screaming at the girl and beating her up is somehow far better than her clumsy attempt at charity fundraising. If any of you honestly think that's anything like an appropriate and justified response, you need some serious help.

But yes, I also would not be thrilled to get that message. I can conceive an appropriate message on the subject, possibly, depending on the rules and culture of the company, but telling co-workers (as opposed to friends or family) how much you're giving is not cool, and it needs to sound more like a request. Unless there's something we're not being told, being in the Peace Corps didn't give her any authority over others in her current job, and she needs to take a less pushy approach.

Tell your boss she is using company resources on company time for something that is completely unrelated to company business.

That usually takes care of things like this.

Every email i've received like this from coworkers got the following reply:

Corporate Email Systems are for company business. Please refrain from using the corporate distribution system for personal business unless pre-approved by Human Resources. Users violating the corporate email policy risk losing access to email.

My friend came up for a wedding this past summer from El Salvador doing Peace Corps shit. I know what you are talking about. We got into an argument while discussing watching films of some sort because I said I didn't enjoy low-brow art. He called me a racist. I asked him how it was racist, and he said it was because I was belittling uneducated people by using the term "low-brow." I said that education has nothing to do with race, and he told me I was a bigot then. I went into a spiel about Marx's theories on base and superstructure, even though it had little to do with low-brow versus high-brow art, and the conversation sort of petered out.

Wouldn't bother me that much, I'd just delete it. But then maybe that's because I know myself to be somewhat self-righteous sometimes.

"I hate self-righteous people"

does that include bono?

This woman is obviously suffering from some kind of neurosis. It probably has nothing to do with helping Haitians, and you definitely don't want to know what the real problem is.
Sounds like more trouble than it's worth.
If you do anything, I wouldn't send her an email about it; send a memo to somebody in a position to shut her up and make good and sure you point out the *extremely* inappropriate nature of her email.
There is absolutely no reason you should be dealing with other peoples random neurotic whims at work.
Unless they are your boss and you can't help it.

i don't really buy that whole "low brow art" thing.
that's so pre- "the work of art in the age of mechanical reproduction."

but i don't see how race enters into it?
art is art, and people trying to tell you that their art is high-brow are doing so because they want to preserve the old, elitist concepts of beauty.

this is a concept that has been pervasive in visual theory since the 1950's, and it relates to race only in the socioeconomic sense.
not to say that money isn't significant, but it's oversimplifying the fuck out of things to call you a racist.
what a douche.

So far the only email I got about Haiti at work was from my company. They've already donated $1 million and wanted to tell us that they're also doing a 100% employee match.

Apparently they're also using the company aircraft (I work for a company with a massive aerospace division, we've got a few planes) to land medical supplies and volunteer doctors.

I guess, at least, her hearts in the right place and it's nice of her to try to help. The tone of her email sucks dick because she's trying to almost guilt you into donating and brag about her generosity at the same time.

You should ask why it takes an event like this to get her to give when there are countless number of people within our own country that needs help.

Setup a meeting in Outlook with just you and her. After you get together and she asks "What is this meeting about?", just yell at her at the top of your lungs so everyone else can hear it.

Problem solved. I'm a problem solver. It's what I do.

This made me lol irl

I've been giving 10x my overtime $$ to various charity organizations for years now. I work around 5hrs overtime a week for which I'm paid $0, so I figure that's the least I can do!
