ugh there was an accident on the east bound lanes of the DIVIDED freeway at about 3pm, and because of rubbernecking the traffic was backed up for miles on the opposite side of the freeway. The whole time I thought that the accident had happend in the west bound lanes, untill I heard on the radio that it had happened in the east bound lanes and the traffic was caused by people rubber necking. :| Heh you remember that scene in Office space when Samir started punching his steering wheel? That was me for about 5 minutes...then my hand started to hurt so I stopped.😱

I love Office Space

I have cought myself Rubbernecking (a hot chick) a few times but never got in a wreck from it.

Agreed. Folks should just turn their heads and drive right on past. Because one of these days, when they can't control their voyeuristic impulses, they're gonna take a peek and see some dude's head splattered out over the bridge abutment like a melon dropped from a 12th story window, and they're gonna spew their cream cheese bagel all over the windshield. Because, man, if there's one thing that'll never come out of the ol' dash vinyl, it is cream cheese bagel vomit!!!

dude, you can't control it. its human nature, simple as that.

Whenever there's an accident I always slow down and look. It's not because I'm a morbid pervert/sicko. It's because I want to avoid running over the police/emergency personnel/ bystanders milling around the scene.

his arguement is that it is a divided highway. no one is on his side of the highway and there is nothing to slow down for but to 'look' at what happened.
i totally feel for ya gentobu, but like TrevL63 said: it has become standard. still hate it though.

there's really no way to stop rubbernecking...i hate it as well but i am also guilty as charged....

i agree it's human nature...kind of along the lines of people's obsessions with scandals, etc.

I control it all the time. Well except for the one time the was a plane in the grass median on I-4 but that is a little different. If there are no emergency workers on my side of the road I don't even slow down. Yes I do look but I don't slow down.

you know, when there's a multi-car pile-up or some limo is ablaze you can understand why people rubberneck, but there are times that i get caught in traffic and realize the cause is due to some cop giving a guy a ticket on the other side of the highway- it just gets ridiculous.
