...shit but want to be paid anyway. And I really hate the ones that make the problem worse. Like the guy that just turned my primary printer into a 100lb paperweight.

"I got 5+ hours in it. Sorry it's not working. I could take it back to the shop."

It just needed the rollers cleaned/replaced. Now it doesn't work at all.

Pretty sure he broke the duplexer assembly. Prime/1 day shipped another one so I'll find out for sure tomorrow...I hope tomorrow.

Sometimes it's a goofy problem and they have to figure it out. Nobody can know everything about every signal possible situation.

damn dude sounds like you know more than he does. Tear a new one into his boss. See if they waive the fee since he made it worse and pay for the parts.


Give him the crazy eye next time hes over and make him sweat too.

I don't disagree with you but.... The duplexer wouldn't feed the paper every time because the rollers were worn/dirty. He takes the assembly apart (4 screws), cleans the rollers, puts it back together. Now the motorized roller on the back of the unit doesn't work. It was before he took it apart. He also broke a spring loaded "plunger" that he said wasn't important. Guess HP just added that on because reasons....

Run a test page, it jams, clear the jam, pull out the duplexer, look at it, put it back in, run a test page, jams. pull out the duplexer and fuser.... o_O Had him put the duplexer in an older machine I have in the back...jams. He decides it must be the feed path that's attached to the door even though it jammed on my old machine too.:rolleyes: Gets one from his shop and, of course, it doesn't work either.

I really hope the one I ordered works.

Very few tech toys are worth paying a competent repairman to fix. I learned that more than 25 years ago when a CD player's laser began to fade and disks were skipping. Is cost me $75 (in 1989 dollars) just to learn that it would cost more to fix than the MSRP of a new player from the same company.

Printing is fun. People who don't print are psychos.

Printing eats shit. On rain days I sometimes get tasked with running prints in the office. The printer is a piece of shit HP DesignJet. Things that should be easy aren't. I have no idea why you can't setup job templates so you don't have to select options over and over on the craptastic touchscreen. When I get some time, I'm gonna see if I can script something through the web interface, but even that doesn't reveal all tbe necessary options.

Also, the stupid thing does what the fuck it wants to. We'll chop off the top border on this print! 24" paper out? Fuck you. I'm not saying a thing, or pausing the job. I'll print on 36", and you can spend your time manually cutting it, cause there's nothing more important you could be doing... :^S

you sure the laser head wasn't just dirty? I've never heard of lasers fading.... Every instance I've seen where the discs couldn't be read were solved with cleaning the lens of the lazer with a q-tip + rubbing alcohol.

This reminds me of the time I had a PowerVault Array throw multiple disk failures on a RAID5 and wasn't acknowledged. A call to Dell determined that the problem was a backplane failure and not a disk failure (disks were actually fine). I had a Dell tech come out to work on it with a new backplane...he opened the case after removing the disks in the array (keeping track of which ones were in which slots). Then he proceeded to remove the screws on the backplane...well, he stripped 3 of the heads and couldn't remove them. What should have been a nice 2 hour job turned into a ship a replacement unit next business day, which meant downtime just because he couldn't work a screwdriver. (or select the correct size)

Appliance repair folks are even worse. They often replace cheaper parts until they eventually replace the more expensive ones. They don't know what they're doing a lot of the time...they just make educated guesses. I'm not saying all are like that, just that many don't have the training to really troubleshoot...they rarely know how to do more than swap boards.....and yes, they collect money for each thing they replace.

So if you knew it was just rollers why on earth didn't you just buy some new ones from amazon or ebay and do it yourself?

Sis in law gave us a nice double door stainless fridge. Had(has) a problem with water backing up and draining in the bottom of the freezer. Once it was full, it would spill out onto my oak floors. Called a reputable guy, he said there's a panel in the back with an aluminum coating that flakes off and clogs the drain. Empty/defrost the fridge, haul all of the food to my office. $500 later....and it still drains water in the bottom of the freezer. Call him and he says it could be something else. Empty/defrost the fridge, haul all of the food to my office. When he's done, he says that if that doesn't fix it he doesn't have any other ideas.:rolleyes:

Every 2 weeks of so, I break ice out of the bottom of my freezer.

Because I don't know jack crap about printer repair. The "safe" answer is to call someone that does, lol, because if my printer doesn't work, I can't make loans.

It's the water from the auto defrost that's not making it to the condensate pan. I need to do that but I'm sure it will mean that I have to haul all of the food to my office again. So far, I've been too lazy.

my AC went out last september at the hottest weekend of the year during labor day weekend. i had the AC guy come out the following tuesday and he checked it out. it was $50 just to get him to come out and investigate the problem.

after about 10 minutes he told me it was just the fuse that was out. i told him to go ahead and fix it. at that point he told me the minimum charge for a call to actually repair is $300 (on top of the $50). they mentioned nothing of that on the phone when i called about the problem.

so i told him to leave it as is and i'll give him the $50 and i'll get a new fuse myself. $10 later after a trip to lowes, i had my AC back up and running.

our fridge has a small hole for defrost draining in the back of the freezer compartment.A small tube runs down to a pan either under or next to the compressor. The heat from the compressor and the fan evaporates the water in the pan. As the gentleman said if the defrost heater fails the hole will plug up and cause this problem. This also can happen if the freezer is overfilled preventing normal operation, as well if the freezer door is not completely shut for a short period of time water will freeze over the drain hole and it will freeze over causing the same issue.You can remove the fan cover and see this drain hole,sometimes you will have to back cover to see the drain. Either way find the drain and clean it out,you can use a hair dryer or pour warm water down it. To be sure pull the fridge out from the wall,remove the card board cover at the bottom and you can see water coming thru when the drain is clear. Give this a try it may solve your problem. Be care full not to overload the freezer many people do,and make sure the door is always completely closeed. Hope this helps.
Maybe a project for tomorrow.

I fix shit, its what I do. I can fix damn near anything you put in front of me.

Sometimes shit doesn't go the way it should. Sometimes some cheap stupid plastic piece broke that has never broke before and I don't know to look for it. Sometimes I just miss shit. Sometimes someone else has been in there and done things different than I do and I have to try to figure out what they did, then undo it, then redo it so it makes sense to me.

We just had the rollers go out on our warehouse printer. Thing had been cranking for 5+ years with no issues. Its just a laser printer, no copier, no duplex, nothing fancy. 3 different people worked on it before we gave up and bought a new one. Nothing was going together the way it should. That shit just happens sometimes.
