there goes $3000... hope you made backups.

no

And from now on, you will. And leave the originals AT HOME.

I have no sympathy for people whose entire music collections are stolen from their cars, and I have no sympathy for you.

dvds are different buddy...if you can't leave things in your home in peace then WTF? Do you keep copies of all your CDs and DVDs at home and put the originals in a safe deposit box?

For the three that I've actually cared to buy, yes, the originals are in a safe and secure location; only copies get used, and only copies travel.

Same with music, same with software.

If I were going to live in the dorms, NOTHING original would make the move.

I am sorry for your loss. I don't know the law on this point, but I think you could probably download backups of the movies you lost and be at least justified morally. Since you bothered to purchase the originals, I know that digitally overcompressed copies won't be a satisfying replacement, but it's something.

Ironically, I also suggest that two wrongs don't make a right, and you would perpetuate evil if you lost your own morals because of this property crime.

I assume I'm not an asshole if I agree with you. Why would the OP leave his stuff out of his own view for that length of time? A trip to the car on move in day probably takes at least 20 minutes! And it takes ten seconds to open a door lock.

You know, what the f*ck. I'm the type of person who'll lend anything of mine to someone in need. All they had to f*cking do was say "hey, can I borrow some of your DVDs," and I woulda said yes without hesitation. My dorm is a single too! No roommate. It pretty much IS my home. The fact that it was stolen pretty much in my private residence is just... grrr...

Takes more like 2 minutes because my car was parked on the lawn right in front of my room.

I don't care if its 30 seconds...you didn't learn anything from your jacket? I was with you until you said that. Why the fvck would anyone leave ANYTHING of value just sitting in they're room without at least being nearby?

You know what? I have half a mind to do just that. I don't f*cking care anymore. My leatherman got stolen in the community kitchen after I went back to my room for a minute to get some other ingredients, and it had been a graduation gift from my uncle.

Now all my DVDs are gone.

I don't wanna f*cking care anymore. F*ck morals. F*ck if I hurt other people. Goddamn it. With my knowledge of bikes I could steal every f*cking bike on campus, and sometimes I wonder why I don't...

The path to the darkside, it has begun.

my friends and i went to the movie theater the other night. their car got broken into and their ipod, 2 digital cameras, and wallet got stolen.

i know you're feeling crappy, but try to remember that it's just an object. when i worked in the ER, i saw so many hurt people (car crashes, stabbings, suicides, etc) that i learned to focus on the positive. objects can be replaced. it's better than getting shot or stabbed or hit by a car.

and a-holes that steal? karma will get them in the end.

and the worst of it is that now.. you will be looking at everyone in the eye to see if you can tell which one it was.. and you will be wondering if whoever did it will be looking at you with a mental grin. that sucks.. and i am sorry for your loss of DVD's.

Now you know it was most likely someone in your hall. Get to know them and see if they happen to have a lot of the same DVDs you did.

I guess you're just a trusting, decent guy, who needs to learn that other people aren't so decent.
