I just went to look through my DVD case of movies and noticed that it's gone. Stolen on move-in day for summer school.

no

And from now on, you will. And leave the originals AT HOME.

I have no sympathy for people whose entire music collections are stolen from their cars, and I have no sympathy for you.

Ouch.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, my story is as follows: The tow-truck driver who came to get my truck when I wrecked it stole my CDs out of it before he was done. How's that for a fine FU?

dvds are different buddy...if you can't leave things in your home in peace then WTF? Do you keep copies of all your CDs and DVDs at home and put the originals in a safe deposit box?

You know what? I have half a mind to do just that. I don't f*cking care anymore. My leatherman got stolen in the community kitchen after I went back to my room for a minute to get some other ingredients, and it had been a graduation gift from my uncle.

Now all my DVDs are gone.

I don't wanna f*cking care anymore. F*ck morals. F*ck if I hurt other people. Goddamn it. With my knowledge of bikes I could steal every f*cking bike on campus, and sometimes I wonder why I don't...

Freshman year, when I had roommates that were selling pot, I kept my DVDs in a safe in sleeves and just put out the snap cases in plain view. Needless to say, a few of the snap cases disappeared as the year progressed. No one ever got my actual disks, though, and the roomates sure didn't have access to them unless I was around. The safe requried a combination + a key, and he never had either.

EDIT: other important things that should probably be kept in the safe: checkbooks, software, digital cameras, car stereo faceplate, and ipod when not in use, credit card bills and other stuff with id-theft possibility. It's probably not feasible to lock away a laptop, but you can use one of those laptop locks and rope it around your desk.

There's always the possibility that someone could steal the safe or cut off the laptop lock, etc., but they certainly are conspicious. Most safes weigh around 75 lbs so they are not easily moved, and would probably discourage casual, opportunistic theft. Those locks require large bolt cutters and people don't exactly carry those around.

Ok dude calm down, it sucks to have your stuff stolen but when you're moving into an environment like a campus dorm you should be prepared to pay extra attention to your belongings. You should NOT treat things like you would normally in your own house.

Oh yeah, thx for the dvds. Just kidding. ;) That really sucks, and its a major reason I backup everything now. They can be replaced though. :(

Miami University in Oxford, OH. Everyone's room doors were propped open on move-in day because no one wants to unlock and lock their doors each time they drop off something from the car.
