I hate non-nerds, who think they know better than me about computing.

Yesterday, I met up with some old friends from HS and this one kid who I don't like to much, says Firewalls are useless and he doesn't use them. Then my other friend also agrees and says he was using Zonealarm and he got annoyed by the corner pop-up windows. I then proceeded in informing them that the pop-up windows ask for software permission inorder to go online, and I also told them that w/o a firewall they are totally open to Malicious attacks. Then the dumbass says, "Who keeps anything important on their computer anyway?" God, I just had to swallow my nerd-pride and comtemplated how to find out his ip address. I can't believe people who can get firewalls don't use them. The assclown also called FireFox, "Fox Fury," and said that he liked IE better without even saying why. Anyone else ever get angry at people like this who don't know shlt about comps. By the way this kid is majoring in Jewelry design, talk about a joke.

Well, if they're behind a router they probably don't need one.

Besides that, why bother even talking to them in the first place? Just move on with life!

I KNOW!!

I just had an arguement with a friend who thinks that Pentiums are better for gaming, and you cannot even use an AMD CPU, becuase they are not compatible with some games'

ahh drives me crazy

I hate nerds who spend the day arguing with thier friends over whether zone alram is better than a hardware firewall.

I run into these people all the time.

i wouldn't care that he didn't want to use a firewall on his own computer.
i'd be royally pissed if he asked me to fix his computer b/c it got hacked.
and then i'd laugh.

LMFAO LMFAO

okay while i was in high school, i would talk to the kids in my programming class (pascal  ) anyways, i always brought up stuff like "yeah that new GDDR4 is amazing" or "i can't believe all the modem-megahurtz that my new BIOS has" and they'd all agree and be like "yeah its pretty kick ass"

i always got a kick out of that

Wow, even my mom is like that except she didn't know what Athlon 64 was before i told her. i then had to prove that they were better by benching and reading online reviews.

Yeah I still hear that sometimes. Was that EVER really true? Weren't there just a few obscure programs that gave like a warning that you didn't meet the cpu requirements when you had an AMD, way back when the pentium 1 and k5 came out?

not to mention he said that I know nothing becuase I did not know what a promo chip was....after some fighting I found out what he meant...

a prommie, or prometia phase change cooling...he calls it a chip :disgust:

and this guy just got his A+ cert 😕:disgust:

I've got these two annoying friends who know nothing of computers and don't take my free advice at all. A few months ago they decided to buy a laptop and ended up spending $1,600 and ended up with 256MB ram, and a 30 GB HD, and it weighs around 12 lbs. Not to mention the battery doesn't hold a charge worth a crap anymore because they keep it in while it is plugged in. Oh yeah they have a crappy screen on it.

Then last week they bought a $1,500 desktop with a whopping 17" CRT, so really 15", and the damn comp only has 256 MB ram and a 40 GB HD. Talk about being fricking morons. And they run AOL dialup on both and run about three virus scanners that are useless becuase last time I was over GATOR and weatherbug were on both.

You would think for the money they spent on computers they would take care of them and not let their 11 cats sneeze all over the screens. Their excuse why they didnt' consult me was they got credit for them, I'm hoping their crazy spending catches up and they eventually need to think twice before buying something they don't need.

It's OK when they are out in the general public, but why does best buy and circuit city constantly hire them?

Not that I agree with them 100%, but I've never ran a software firewall. They are for the most part usless except against the most simple of attempts. Your much better off with a router/firewall solution. Software firewalls are just an illusion of security imho.

that used to be the case in the early days of AMD.. there were some issues with games not workign correctly specially with the old 3dNOW bs that AMD had.

so while currently false it used to be true.

OMG, I use to work at Best Buy, and almost everyone in that store was a total fvcking dumbass when it came to computer or anything else we sold. The only guys that were somewhat knowledgible were at the Geek Squad department.

Yeah, the last time I heard about that was probably 1998 or so.
