I hate Netgear!

I got tired of having to reboot my Netgear WGU624 every so often, sometimes it would be days, other times it would be every day, and lately every few minutes.

I reseted the default settings and then tried reloading the latest firmware hoping it would help, but instead the router not locks every few seconds under traffic and can no longer support more than 1 pc at the same time.

The same day I had problems with my router, my GF called me and said she had no internet. She also has a netgear router, WGR614. The thing is also locking too often and not even under heavy traffic. It just dies whenever.

Sometime today, I went to staples and bought a Linksys wireless G router and it has been running since then with no problems under very heavy traffic.

I'll have to buy a dual band wireless a/g and give this baby to my GF for valentines!

I've only used Linksys routers, so I can't really speak of other brands. My Linksys WRT54G recently died on me after 2 1/2 years of 24/7 running (with no problems), and I just replaced it with a WRT54GS and am so-far very happy. Not sure if the old router going under when it did is the norm or not, but I got very good use out of it during the time it was running and had no complaints until it started acting fishy shortly before it's demise, but otherwise my Linksys have been very good performers and I'm not complaining.

I hope you enjoy your Linksys and have a long happy life with it.

Bought a used Netgear WGR614 and only been using for a few days. No problems yet. I'm no expert but maybe it's a compatible issue with your router and DSL/cable modem?

I got it paired with a Linksys cable modem.

I had a WGR614 that did the same thing....after ~2 years it would lockup quite a bit....replacing it fixed the problem.

Most SOHO routers have problems after a period of time...I wouldn't say that its just Negear...just bad luck that you had both Netgear's go bad on you at the same time.

I have a netgear router that I use as an AP/switch only (linux box for router). It has been great for years now. On the other hand, had a few customers buy WRT54G V5's, nothing but a PAIN in the neck.

I keep hearing something about the V5's. Fortunately my WRT54GS is a V4, and I've had no problems.

No problems here with my WGT624, did have the same problems you describe with a Belkin router though. Not to mention the features of the Netgear is much better than any oher router I have used. (Linksys, Belkin)
