I hate those companies that went out and bought tons of family names as domain names and hold them forever. Then they charge exorbitant amounts of money while pretending to be doing everyone a favor. I have always wanted to get my last name and host web pages for my family members and perhaps even put up a family tree but these people thwart my efforts at every turn. Even the .name domain has been snatched up already for my last name and it isn't very common. It must really suck to have the name Smith if you want a domain.
 
It's like a real estate market to me. Do you hate the people who buy up a bunch of land in a location hoping the value will go up, and then sell it for a profit? It's capitalism.

It can be annoying but it's capitalism and like Ninja said - it's the just the real estate of the 21st century.
 
Join the club. I absolutely hate the fact that many places keep track of what domains you search for, and then register the domain themselves and then wont sell them. Really pisses me off. I have lost several domains to this type of practice.
 
I've been squatting BlackBlackBooties.com for years, nobody has given me an offer yet.

And yes, squatters should D I A F.

No one owns a domain name, you can only rent them.

if nobody owns them then why do you have to pay for it and who are you paying?
