I hate my car insurance company... recommend me another.

I drive a pretty slow family car, its a 97 Saturn SC2. Not worth much, but its a decent car. I'm pretty young at 18. I got my licenses in June of 2003, and I've had only one accident in September of 2003, the cops claimed no one at fault. Since then, I've had no tickets or no accidents. Technically, the car is under my mothers name, and I'am a "secondary" driver.

I first started paying $620 every 3 months (From June to August to December). After my car accident, it jumped to $660 every 3 months (December to March to June).

Now they send me the quote from June to August. They want $771.

WTF, I've had no accidents or tickets since, why would they increase my rate? Its already rape as it is.

What do you guys suggest I do to lower my rates and/or finding a different insurance company?

EDIT: As far as I know, its full coverage, and a $500 deductable.

Call up some insurance companies for a quote or even do them online if it is offered. Takes a few minutes and doesn't call you anything!

I'm an agent for an Insurance company.... pm me and i'll give you a free qote. Maybe i can save you some money. Good luck 🙂

You work for geico right?😛

Farm Bureau cut mine in half of what I was paying, others wanted 2x as much as I was already paying. They got a customer for life now.

I use Mercury and they seem fine, though I've never made a claim with them ever (thankfully).

If you have comprehensive then you're f'd. If you just have liability, then I'm f'd😉 Basically they hate to pay out, to their own customers and everyone else.

Thanks guys, i'll look a few of these companies up. I don't want a crappy insurance company that refuses to pay up, but my rate is getting ridiculously high. From the sounds of it, I think I might want to avoid Mercury.

Cablegod, farm bureau sounds interesting, is that State Farm? Got a link? 🙂

Geico sucks as far as premiums go. I was quoted $1200/6mo LIABILITY for a 91 Integra and I'm 25. Progressive gave me $240/6mo.

I live in the city (a "bad" zip code, as the insurers say), have 1 at-fault accident, no tickets, and my credit score is 650 and improving.

Geico doesn't want my business, as their quote was more than double what progressive offered. It was over $2200/6 months. I was quite shocked.

For comparison, I got my Progressive Policy for $872/6 months with paid-in-full discount--same coverage as Gieco quote. (Last company was Allstate Insurance, around $1100/6 months--same coverage as progressive.)

It pays to shop around.

GEICO.

<-- Former personal injury attorney. Trust me... I know my insurance companies.

What about Progressive?

Not quite as good, but better than Farmers and Allstate.

Whatever you do, avoid Farmers and Allstate like the plague.

But GEICO's customer service makes it all the more worth the money when you need it.

I don't know. I heard so many horror stories from past Geico customers...
I have Progressive right now, and my quote was 3 times less than Geico's as well...

Why is that?

Why do you have full coverage on a '97 Saturn? The car is worth, what, 3K or so? How much would you save if you dropped comp and collision on it?

I have Geico now, I have 1 speeding ticket on my record, and I'm 24.
I switched from Allstate to Geico about a year ago, and my rates went from $211 per month to $166 a month. Now I'm paying about $133 per month.

Also, I had a very good experience with their customer service.
My car got some pretty major hail damage July 3 of 2003. I took it to their damage estimator guy, and set up an appointment with a shop. I took it to Gerber Autimotive, and they had my car for about a month. The total price came to like $8000 (the car is a 99 Chrysler 300M, last year around that time the car was worth about 15K) I paid my $500 deductable, They took care of my rental, and all the other expenses. I was expecting them to try to weasel out of it, or to come up with some reason to increase my premium, but it never came. My rate dropped, and they covered everything great with no hastles.

Nowadays, I get junk mail fliers in the mail for various other insurance companies with rates around $100 a month, and I just toss em in the trash, since I know Geico has been good to me in the past.

Did you even bother to call your Ins Co and ask why the rate is going up? It's all just based on calculations and they can tell you very easily what changes to cause the price increase.

Geico sounds pretty expensive! I'll check them out, as well as Progressive. Progressive sounds pretty cheap, so I may go with that. Thanks for the replies guys.

Nope, sure didn't. It was 10:30pm when I saw the letter from the insurance company. It doesn't matter, they've been raping me for a while, and I need to find another company anyway.

It was on whatever plan my mom has on her car. Maybe when I move to this next one, I'll lower the coverage.
