Time to get them audited buy the government. This is a serious matter if it in fact true.

Bank error in Bank's favor

I keep a close eye on my bank balance and recently it's been erratic. Note my thread about what bills not to pay?

My bank Hudson City Savings Bank recently changed its website and the information is now all messed up. I print out my statements (they don't send statements any more) and it turns out that my printouts don't match the information on the website. There's quite a bit of money that has disappeared from my account. I went over to the bank and yelled at them today - they looked up my account info on a totally different computer system and it had yet another set of numbers.

Worst thing is that they haven't credited me with my last two monthly disability payments. I contacted Social Security and they sounded like they were seriously upset. Maybe I'll find out what's going on?

Anyway, who can recommend a bank that has accurate account information online? And doesn't have ridiculous fees?

Thanks.

Why, in this day and age, would anyone use a bank rather than a credit union? Credit unions have lower loan interest rates, generally the same or higher account interest rates, and are 100% free. Plus, most decent size ones have more than sufficient free ATMs. Service is FAR superior: I can talk to a person in under a minute if I call my credit union.

I see no reason to use a bank, and due to their BS fees and charges I never will again. I don't see an up side.
Online banking, scanned check images, and Quicken sync all available?
The reasons I need a bank branch anymore is to deposit gifted checks or cash, or medical cost reimbursements, or recently in order to obtain a signed and stamped paper as part of TreasuryDirect's utterly ridiculous maze of hoops they put up. I don't think the government wants people to buy bonds anymore.

I'm with PNC right now. No problems, no fees. Also no interest, though that appears to be normal, even among credit unions, unless you do somewhere around 15 debit transactions a month - either by shopping constantly, or else by splitting up each purchase into several little transactions, which they may not like very much.
No idea about their ATM services or fees; I very rarely need or use cash, and if I do, I get cash back when buying groceries. There are also at least two branches within easy driving distance, so I can always use one of their own ATMS.
