Seagate bought them?

Hmm...hopefully it won't make their drives turn to ****** too. Maxtor bought up Quantum and that didn't do them any good.

So now we only have a few HD players. Seagate/WD/Hitachi

Fujitsu/Toshiba/Samsung are kinda lower rung HD makers.

I have had a Maxtor 80GB hard drive as my main hard drive(I got it in May of 2002) and it's been serving me fine to this day. I also have a 160GB Seagate as my secondary hard drive from March of 2006 and it's been serving me well, too.

My brother, on the otherhand, had a Western Digital that quit working in just 2-3 weeks from buying it, and then he returned it and got another WD drive, and it died in 2-3 months, and then he went back and made them replace it with another brand and has had no trouble ever since.

No this is all fact based on observation of many drives from various locations and environments.

Get any group of people together with long running experience of HDD failure & i doubt you'll reach a consensus on one brand being totally sucky, frinstance you never had the same trouble that many others did with the IBM Deathstars 😉

Oh yes I have seen the problems with the IBM's. My personal drives were lucky and had no issues, and I didn't continue to purchase the newer ones after I started reading about stuff.

And yeah...literally I could take all of the thousand+ failed hard drives I've replaced and stack them all by brand. The Maxtor pile would be larger than all the other brands combined. That's my concensus right there.

What did you expect after 3 years?
