I hate Maxtor

Hooray for regular backups though.

Now I have a few 10k RPM SCSI Cheetah's installed though that I've been putting off so it's all good. 😎

Well, I've noticed that most drives go under due to running hot, and maxtors tend to run hotter than usual when under a lot of load. Though seagates and WDC drives if put under enough load can suffer the same way too, so I guess it's a YMMV.

My Maxtor DP9 has bad blocks. 'Cmon you damn Conroe, come out already so I can buy you and build a whole new system around it.

I don't see why you can't just buy another drive anyways.

I know a lot of people have problems with Maxtors, but I've had better luck with my Maxtors than any other brand.

Probably because he wants to do a fresh OS install.

Just buy another hdd of similar size and image to it.

Edit: Doesn't have to be similar size, just bigger.

Nothing but Western Digital and Seagate here... haven't had problems. I've had the same drives for 5 years. No problems. It's all about buying the right stuff. What drive do you have?

i had a maxtor run ok for 3 years. then it started doing problems such as going into the dreaded PIO mode. i got everything of it, checked it and the software said it was dying so now it's sitting in my garage waiting for me to recycle it. thanks maxtor for another screwy product.

WD is the way to go.. my system right now is all WD, 2 - 80 gigs, 1 - 120 gig, and 1 - 320 gig. Never had a problem with them, at all.

I've bought from all three companies an never had any real problems, I had a Seagate 6.4 go out on me after about 8 years, but 8 years isn't bad and that drive did LONG hours.

I've had bad experiences with WD and Maxtor drives. On the otherhand, my Samsung Spinpoint is still going strong after 3 years, even though there was one point where airflow was bad enough to make it go over 55C :Q

Meh, i have a 20GB Maxtor as my 2nd drive and i've never had the slightest problem with it, that thing must be ancient now...

I usually buy WDs myself, my current 160GB has been great for the last few years 😉
