You don't lose your ability to type if you're hit on the head -- if you did that would be very uncommon... just like you don't forget how to walk or speak, read, etc.

Perhaps if you had a stroke, I'd believe you.. but not from getting hit on the head

Well, I actually didn't buy a DVORAK, but I changed my current keyboard in software to emulate the DVORAK.


nd- I bet if we performed an experiment in which I repeatedly hit you in the head with, say, a lead pipe? I'd bet you'd lose your ability to type.

nd, actually you're wrong on that - you CAN lose your ability to do all of the things you listed from a head injury. I know this for a fact. My son experienced a loss of all of those things after being hit by a car. Well. okay, he didn't type BEFORE, so I can't say you're wrong there.

Well, I tried that once... Just cause I was curious about Dvorak since it's theoretically a faster layout for typing.

I just changed my keyboard mappings to Dvorak and went through a tutorial... I didn't get too far, it was hard to break my Qwerty habits. You could type quite a few common words using the keys near home row though, so that was cool.

It's a good security measure though. Switch the keyboard mappings to Dvorak, learn them and memorize them.. and no one will be able to use your box easily

I just felt like trying it. I hadn't realized that you could change a setting on a regular keyboard to emulate it.

kantonburg- Just go into the control panel->keyboard.

There should be a "Languages" tab or an "Input Locales" (Win2K) tab.

In my case (win2k) I just hit the "add" button and chose the US-DVORAK keyboard layout. Be sure that you have 2 listed (regular layout and the new layout). That way you can switch between the two by hitting either ctrl+shift or alt+shift. You can determine the keystrokes to change layouts on the "Change Key Sequence..." button.

Keyboards that are split down the middle IS SUCK .. I mean they suck.

It's so hard to type since I have a typing pattern that is very unorthodox. I don't abide by the rules of "asdf jkl;".
