I hate languages...none in particular, just in general...it would be so much easier to just grunt and point:colbert:

The R-sound is one of the most distinctive across languages. Probably because it's so difficult and hence gets bastardized first, when languages split :D

I wish I could roll my R's so I can speak some good German and/or make good use of "Talk like a pirate day."

Um, there are no rolled 'R's in German.

I love listening to NPR in Texas because the anchors will almost kill themselves to super roll the R when they are talking to someone or about something related to the Latino (another word they go nuts with by emphasising the "tee") community.

So much this. I want to stab anyone who speaks with a flat accent and then overpronounces the living shit out some sort of hispanic word that has a plain English pronunciation.

For some reason, cooking shows come to mind. There's some woman that's always on Top Chef that I want to stab in the face with a fork. JUST SAY THE WORD, BITCH, I DON'T WANNA HEAR YOUR LONG AWKWARD PAUSE FOLLOWING BY YOU SAYING THE WORD LIKE YOU'RE TRYING TO SPIT OUT A MOUTHFUL OF CUM. Ugh.

I like languages with rolling R sounds.

I don't like languages that have different words that sound the same other than different pitches, or where they use pictures of fish or trees as letters.

HAHAHAHAHA I laugh my ass off at TPR and just Texas news anchors in general. Especially the latin decent ones with a Spanish language background. They go through so much effort to have zero inflection, dialect, or any form of extra-enunciation while speaking English, but the moment a Spanish word pops up in a story they have to go the extra mile to over-enunciate it. I have a Spanish wife and we both laugh our asses off at that shit.

I knew a French teacher who spoke perfect French but spoke with a huge Texan accent. It was weird and hilarious.

Um, there are no rolled 'R's in German.
I'm pretty sure it depends on the region. In the south the R is rolled.
When it comes to european standard languages such as french/german/italian, the pronunciation is determined by what sounds the local language uses/used (in france they're almost completely dead but there are regional accents because of this, while e.g. swiss german is the default oral language).

Also there's plenty of italian native speakers who can't roll the R, even TV speakers and such.
So it's kind of arbitrary.

I roll the R when speaking english because it's how it comes natural to me, but italian rolled Rs are delicate or even just a single tap so it's not ridicolous like with spanish speakers.

That's my wife with Spanish and English. She's a Spaniard, but had an awkward growing up condition. Growing up she spent 6 months in Spain with her grandparents, and 6 months in the states with her parents until she was 16. Her father was stationed in Georgia and the later Louisiana. Her southern accent is atrocious! She has unlearned a bit of it, but when some words come out it is funny to hear :D Actually posted a youtube video on these board when she was rambling a bit under the influence of some pain meds.
