I hate joining new message boards

I've been a member here since 1999, and was a member on the old AnandTech board before '99. I've been posting on message boards and newsgroups since 1995. However, when I find a new website and join their boards, there's that stupid post count that identifies you as a newbie. I think most people's impression of someone who just joins a board is that they're new to the internet, don't know the etiquette, and that their opinion is invalid. Some dumb kid who got his first computer in 2001 happens to have 3000 posts, and tried to belittle you, who has been on the net for almost 10 years. </rant>

I agree. At 18, I thought I was going to conquer the world. I studied philosophy, straight-A student, and thought my opinions were more valid than others' (still do kinda). Then you age a few years, and at 24, you think 18 year olds are stupid kids. You're 24 now, a real adult. Then you turn 28, and although you dread 30 coming up, you're glad you're not 24 anymore.

I guess I learned young then. I was a kid until I was 19, then I fvcked up in school, worked hard to get back in, and I'm back at it with a different attitude... 22 now.

Most people I know are graduated at 22 and looking for jobs/doing post undergrad school/etc.

I did the same thing. So did my dad, and my brother (who just got readmitted last month, and turns 25 in March). I think it runs in our family. Being older in college seems like a big deal when you're 22, but when you're my age (29), it doesn't matter than I started work at 25 and not 22.

It's considered disrespectful... it's not just about postcounts... think of it as if you started a new job and stated your opinions about this and that as well as picking fights with people who've been there much longer. Even though you have a right, you won't get anywhere. Nobody will like you any more for it... why try ?
