Yeah, good point. I've had to replace a few IBM hard drives in my time, but I've had to replace far more dead drives from Quantum and Western Digital. Maxtor and Seagate aren't much better, and I've had to RMA a few of those as well.

Now, if you want to get people to agree about crappy computer components, try talking about Iomega. I've replaced more failed Zip drives in the past few years than I ever care to remember, and so have many other computer technicians that I know.
 
I've got an IBM drive. Not died on me. Onlyhad it for about 3 months.......
 


<< oh jeez you guys.. tonite at work we had our head Unix tech in doing some microcode upgrades on an IBM AIX machine... upgrading the microcode for fiberchannel controller - and when he rebooted the box, the ENTIRE configuration database was wiped clean. >>

Would a defective HDD do that?
 
it wasnt a defective hard drive, but it was IBM's microcode upgrade... this is an "I hate IBM" thread, not just "I hate IBM's IDE pc hard drives" 😀
