or both

b/c in a sense you're speaking out about one or both of them, thus forwarding your thoughts on the matter to the public here at AT.

you're a hippie, dude.

woah woah woah, watch what you say now.

It's mostly the hippies - I mean, come on, they're making a big deal over a bunch of trees!!! And I believe I read that the school district said they'd plant 3 for every 1 they cut down...so in a sense, the hippies are harming their dearest mother earth in the long run.

Although, I do hate activists as a whole....hmm....I'm just a hateful kinda guy. The ANTI hippy.

Well, why don't you cut down the trees in your yard and plant 3 for each one? Or do you prefer big trees?

There are only 10 ~ 20 real hippies in the world. That girl who climbed 100 feet up a tree and lived in it for like one year to keep it from being cut down = genuine bona fide 100% non-hypocritical hippie. I think her position was retarded but GD I respect the hell out of her for it.

The personal transportation driving hippies who live in upscale neighborhoods constructed entirely out of murdered trees located on land that was once pristine habitat for some kind of dung beetle, own stock in all the companies they love to rail against, and claim to defend the environment are just hypocrites who want to protect their own exclusive enjoyment of the natural ecology from all those other people who want to build homes and live in an upscale trendy neighborhood with scenic views.

"I've got my little piece of heaven, the rest of you can live in nice eco-friendly multi-family units that overlook the freeway and go f-ck yourself. And you assholes should be forced to use public transportation. I can hardly drive on my streets and highways without getting stuck in traffic, anymore."

Hippies who are willing to lead BY EXAMPLE get my respect, by fully immersing their own day-to-day life in all those restrictions and limitations they would foist upon all us little people.

I met a nice hippie in my dorm who I actually like (and she's cute). But today I was walking around outside and there was basically a hippie drum circle going on. Talk about conflicting emotions.

I find it rather humorous that this thread is about hating hippies when the guy who runs the blog doesn't call himself a hippy. Labels are destructive.

K*FREE of UNVAiN.COM

Labels are a necessary heuristic without which humans would not be able to function in their environment due to sensory overload. There is not enough time in each day for a human to truly interact on an individual basis with everything he sees. There's not even enough time in a day for a person to interact with everything in his bedroom without using heuristics.

Simply claiming that "labels are destructive" sounds great. It's patently false, but it makes a wonderful sound bite. Mis-applied labels can be deceptive, this is true, but that's a far narrower category than your original and it lacks the force, which would explain the preference for the (false) generalization over the (true) specific reference.

Furthermore, regardless of the heuristic used, it is a fact that your lifestyle does not coincide with the position you have taken on the trees. I notice that you fail to address the actual criticism, and only counter a superficial point of rhetoric that contained no argument.

You're right, actually. You proved that in one of your responses here about the school offering to plant replacement trees. A true hippy would actually care about the trees - you're apparently just selfish and care more about your own desire to see tall trees rather than the school's need to build a new math wing.

So congrats, you aren't a hippy....but are your true colors better?

Rather than refute any actual points, you focus on labeling yourself (in this case, you create a label through the refutation of a different label, thereby creating for yourself a de-facto label of "not hippie"). Interesting.
