I had a buddy of mine ask me to buy a 60GB 5400 rpm Maxtor for one of his fellow students machines. So I order it up and it arrives just fine. Everything is hunky dory, right? Wrong.....

They drop the computer off today saying the new HDD doesnt work. It is an emachine.:(

I open it up and there is not even room for a second HDD!:|

A celeron 366 w/32MB RAM :|

I love the keyboards. The orange stripe across the top with all them buttons, and they only weigh about 2 pounds.

And they're spending money on a HDD upgrade? Get more memory! And a 5400RPM drive? You should be ashamed of yourself. :p

Au contraire mon frère......When he said that she needed more HDD space I asked what speed were the mobo ide controllers and was told ATA33. So this ATA100 60GB drive is alredy way overkill.

Then I asked what are the airflo characteristics in the case, and was told there were no fans besides PSU. So with that info in mind and the fact that the person did not wish to spend any more $$ than the cost of getting more space, I think a 5400 rpm drive was the correct choice.

And remember that those were the only facts that I had until this POS emachine was dumped into my lap this afternoon.

As a side note: She now has 192MB of RAM after I upgraded that from spare stuff. Luckily I had some PC100 laying around.

A BIOS update for what? It is running OK right now. I had partitioned the HDD into two 30GB parts.
