So since I had no luck selling this brand new compaq laptop. I figured I'd jump on ebay sell it and get some good money out of it.

I've sold on ebay before and have good feedback from buying and selling. However all the hoops you gotta jump through when selling is RIDICULOUS!!!!

I specifically restricted international bidding on my auction

Then someone from Puerto Rico ends up winning.

Then I goto figure shipping on both the Fedex and USPS calculators and guess what? Its really high. About $60-$80 and both Fedex and USPS consider it INTERNATIONAL shipping.

If Fedex and USPS consider this Puerto Rico shipment "International" then why the fck did ebay let the member bid on my auction.

Now on top of all that. Becuase I don't sell a TON of stuff on ebay, they are probably gonna want to hold my money in limbo and have me ship the freaking laptop to Puerto Rico, then make sure this buyer is happy, THEN FINALLY they might release my money.

I'm SOOOOO tired of you ebay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone else feel what I'm going through. Its just absolutely ridiculous. I have 73 feedback ratings on my ebay account and I have a ton of heatware which I know ebay doesn't care about but still.

The Puerto Rican buyer has 49 feeback and has all good feedback but all he/she has bought is CHEAP CHEAP stuff. Nothing expensive like a laptop.

What do you guys think I should do? As of right now I AM NOT SHIPPING IT and I'm ticked at ebay for letting people from puerto rico bid.

you don't understand. now ebay is holding alot of payments for sellers that don't sell a ton of stuff. they hold the payment in limbo until the buyer leaves positive feedback, or 21 days lapses!!

the buyer won it last night and hasn't paid yet! so I'm waiting and debating on wtf to do here.

Did the buyer refuse to pay the full shipping amount? There should of been some level of expectation that shipping was going to be over $45, no?

If you're doing this through Paypal and they do put a freeze on your money you can try that "exploit" that was mentioned on here. You refund the buyer like one cent and then your funds should be available for withdrawal.

Of course, I haven't used Paypal in a while and have never been in this situation so they easily could've fixed this by now.

This is an absolute last course of action though. Try and resolve it with the buyer by either splitting shipping or offering a refund.

I will only ship IF

1) buyer pays in full

2) ebay doesn't hold the payment.

I'm not risking a $500+ laptop for ebay to play games with me.

You got owned by geography. Puerto Rico is a US territory... so eBay most likely doesn't consider it "international". However, the postal service deems it out of the country, so you pay international rates.

yea life just sux sometimes.

I like craigslist. everything is face to face and you can see what your buying and deal with each other more easily. plus every once in awhile you meet good people.

Plus no fees. But their were no bites on craigs for the laptop so I had to choose forums or ebay. i chose ebay because i wanted to find a buyer for sure and within 3 days.

I feel your pain. I don't use EBay myself but my son is a powerselling guru at it. If I can't sell something locally through CL, I give it to him to sell on EBay.

I would be pissed that happened too... and something like that I'd rather craigslist locally.

Last time I checked shipments to PR are NOT billed at international rates for USPS. I believe they are counted as domestic rates for Fedex and UPS too, but since they are not within the contintental US, you get charged for the cheapest Air service, even if you select "Ground" service (same as you do when shipping to AK or HI).

Wow, I sell on Ebay all the time & I never run into problems like this. Yes, I have had Paypal hold funds, but I always get some sort of delivery confirmation & Paypal releases the funds once the item has been delivered.

There's an option where you will ship only to the "lower 48" - excluding Hawaii Alaska and US territories. That's what I do.

So how much in fees did they take from you?

I'm trying to sell 2 items for about $105, fees on EACH are $11.

whenever I went on their websites. Both Fedex and USPS considered it international shipping when giving me a quote.

so I think they consider it international.

I just checked with USPS and it's definitely the domestic rate. Under $30 to ship a 10-pound package via Priority Mail from CA to PR (exact same price it would cost me to ship to NY), and $17 to ship via Parcel Post, and under $6 for Media Mail (I know the laptop doesn't qualify, but just threw that in there to show it definitely is the domestic rate). Those prices are without insurance or sig confirmation.

UPS bills it at the domestic rate also (same cost shipping to Hawaii versus PR).

Looks like Fedex does charge a little more and does label it as international, but it's not that bad ($50 list price for a 11-pound package with 3-day shipping to PR with $500 insurance and sig confirmation, versus $40 for 3-day to NY).

What does the buyer being from Puerto Rico have to do with eBay holding the payment? If you weren't OK with eBay holding the payment in escrow, you shouldn't have sold on eBay at all.
